We also have the OEM running boards and they seem fine to us.

They were more expensive than other options at RealTruck, so not sure if it was the best move, but the For Appliance store has 20% off frequently to discount that price and if one has Ford Points to spend (which we did) it made the cost almost competitive.

We don't off road and have a RWD 2025 XLT Ranger, so perhaps that matters, but the height is fine, not too low.

Side Note:

They also provided us with an added bonus of discovering that I no longer trust our Ford Dealer Service shop (where we purchased the Ranger six weeks ago). I used to, we have had an Explorer, an Escape, and now a Ranger. In the past they provided honest service for reasonable price, but a few years ago they changed all the people in the service department, and those days are gone.

I had watched some YouTube videos on installing these OEM rails before I purchased them, and it looked pretty easy to do myself. There are 12 bolts in each rail altogether (3 brackets, 4 bolts to each bracket). All the holes are already in the truck,. Anyway, when I ordered the steps, I scheduled for them to be installed in the service dept, as it should be a quick install and I'd pay a reasonable price.

The steps came in, they scheduled me without telling me the price. I phoned up before the installation and asked for the price and they wanted $420! Ugg, I went down thinking there was a mis-understanding. I talked to the man in the service department and he said installing the steps is a two hour job, and the cost is $$420. I cancelled the installlation and put the rails in my truck, still in the box.

I was going to just do it myself, but there is a body shop we have used and which I trust, so on the way home I pulled in and asked them what they would charge. They said, $70 and we can do it now. They pulled it in, I heard the power tools through the open door, and the rails were on in 12 minutes! I could have done it my self, but was willing to pay the $70 to have folks I trusted do it.

The Ford service dept inflated the hours by a factor of 10! (120 minutes (2 hours) rather than the 12 minutes actually needed. And they wanted 6X the cost.

So that is it, I can no longer trust this dealership with any non-warranty work on any of vehicles moving forward, as they have proven themselves to be willing to flat out lie about the labor involved in any amount of work to be done.

So with that story, I guess I'm glad I purchsased the Ford OEM step rails, they seem solid and work well, and I learned something I can use for future work on our Ford vehicles.

I have a pair of OEM steps for 2026 XLT, they are still on the one month old truck. I don't want em, so I'm going to remove and sell them. I'm located near Ventura CA, make me an offer to pick them up!

I've had those on my wish list for a while. I have the Rhino right now and they are too high to be useful, and are just in the way. Might try those. I'll bet that center step is handy for washing the roof?
