Ranger Roof Rack Install without dropping headliner... Front Runner SlimSport - YouTube
My truck has to get under my apartment parking gate. The Slim Sport Rack is under 3" high.
I used the partial head linear video as reference.
The Ditch Trim holes have to be drilled to fit the 8mm bolt. On the back hole it has a slot. Drilling it larger removed the slot.
This caused the rack to not fit. A day later I used a round file to elongate the back of the rack holes. I was off 1/2 the bolt diameter.
I followed what he did in the video. Did not cut up the Ditch Trim. Mounted rack right on top of it. Much cleaner looking.
You remove the Ditch trim, unscrew the mounting bolts, drill holes out to fit 8mm bolt.
I just used the aluminum spacers that were in the ditch trim.
Hopefully I sealed it up fully. Many layers of trim and spacers.
The rack did not fit squarely at front in Ditch Trim area. It touched the roof.
I used the 1/2" plastic spacer under rack at front. At back I put rack feet right on Ditch trim. Using a 1/2" spacer on top of rack. The 8mm bolt is long. You have to use spacers so it does not stick into air bags.
I have not put the wind deflector on. The wind noise was irritating. The rack hitting a frequency and vibrating at times. Hopefully, when I put wind deflector on the sound will be ok.
If not I do not wish to drop the whole head linear to put sound deadening on roof.
I see they have to take the head linear down to do recall on air bag. Thought maybe i would pay to have Ford remove head linear. Take it to a place or Ford and have sound deadening applied.
This rack only has 4 mounting points. Not a super strong mount. I wished to use the rack to carry some paddle boards. Will consider if the boards are being lifted by wind. Maybe tie front down. Wish those Bronco front tie down points fit on Ranger. I purchased a duffle bag. Thought maybe I could give the bag to someone and they could put their clothes ect. in it when camping.
I compared the cubic storage of bed from my 4G 6' Bed Ranger to 6G 5' Bed. It held about the same.
Just figured i may need a bit more space.
Ditch Trim holes in roof.
