That is awesome to hear! it really does make a HUGE difference. Good luck with the head liner... i think the video for the roof rack install is a better tutorial on how to get the head liner down than the dedicated roof insulation video haha. Cheers!
Thanks, you’re video gave me the inspiration !

Hey Kyle, do you recall how much space was between the roof and headliner? I'm looking at 3M insulation and not sure if the 2" will fit uncompressed. I'm fairly sure 1" is all that will work on the door cards and rear wall, so it'd be cheaper that way (bulk buy) vs both, but the extra reduction in heat load and sound from the roof with 2" is very tempting.

i think there are some sections that you could put 2" in but there are a lot of big foam blocks on the head liner that press up against the roof to keep things from rattling that would probably cause issues and i'm guessing the magnet in the middle of the head liner right behind the dome light would be strong enough to hold it in place with too much material pushing down on the headliner foam blocks like that. not sure if that makes sense but if you look at the video when the head liner is already down in the back you will see the blocks i am talking about. Short answer is that i dont know for sure but you could probably make it fit in some of the roof. hope that helps.

I think he used 80 mil’s for the heat then 200 mil’s for the sound deadening . I used 120 and 150 mil’s (they were out of 200) . Comes out to about 3/8” thick.

It does help, thank you. I'll take a look at your video again when I get on my laptop and can see better.

Might be best to install it on the headliner itself instead of the roof. I'm not going to go too crazy on this project, but after hearing the improvement to the B&O after deadening the doors, I want to see how good the factory system can really sound before dropping $$$$ on upgrades.

Edit: I'm almost positive headliner install is the best to allow for an air gap between the insulation and roof.

I think that is a perfect way to go... install the material on the headliner around the blocks (and also be sure to factor in the cross members on the roof itself... i think there are 2 or 3 of them). you are making me want to do the same thing to see how much quieter i can get it but i really dont know if i want to drop the head liner a 3rd time haha

Thank you. With the left over sound deadning material, I am thinking of lining the back side of the hood. The current factory hood blanket will cover it, so it will be hidden from view. Will it help reduce the injector noise? Who knows. Will the hood feel solid as a rock? Very likely!
I wouldn't put CLD on the hood. That could be a sticky mess at best, and an engine fire at worst.

Good places for it are the firewall, particularly behind the wheels, and on the inside of the fender liner to help deaden rock slap and tire noise. You can then add some insulation/absorption mats over that, like the 3M Thinsulate au4002 or au6002 double scrim. The SM600L is the single scrim 2" that a lot of van life people install, but it seems like it'd be a complete mess if you ever needed to remove it.

I'll let you know how it sounds. I suspect it'll reduce wind noise a decent amount over just CLD. Even 3db would be worth it, IMO.

That's fair, and a good tip. I figured the hood blanket would dissipate heat, but your alternative idea is worth exploring.

I got my tips from resonix's website and van life sites when I was exploring building a camper van or teardrop. Still debating the latter; my back ain't getting any younger!

yeah, there is a magnet in the center of the headliner right behind the dome light that keeps the center of the headliner in place because the rest of the clips and support is out around the outside of the headliner.

Thank you! I double soybd deadened both my f150 & my 19 Ranger but didn't want to mess with the headliner, not sure if i will in my 25 when it comes in.
