MAXTRAX are one of those pieces of gear that you hope you never need—but when you do need them, you need them immediately.

The problem is that many recovery board mounting solutions create another issue. Roof racks get crowded, cargo space disappears quickly, and retrieving boards from the top of a lifted vehicle isn't always convenient when you're buried in sand, mud, or snow.

We wanted a cleaner solution.

The American Adventure Lab MAXTRAX Spare Tire Mount Kit utilizes the unused space around your rear-mounted spare tire, providing a secure and accessible mounting location for your recovery boards while freeing up valuable roof rack and cargo space for other gear.

Features & Benefits:

• Fits most vehicles running 33"–40" spare tires

• Securely mounts MAXTRAX recovery boards to your spare tire

• Lightweight 5052 aluminum construction

• Weighs approximately 15 lbs

• No drilling or permanent vehicle modifications required

• Uses MAC's endless-loop ratchet strap system for a secure installation

• Creates additional storage space behind the recovery boards for recovery gear and trail essentials

• Universal design compatible with a wide variety of off-road and overland vehicles

• Designed and manufactured in the USA

Installation Notes:

• Simple installation using the included strap system

• No cutting, drilling, or fabrication required

• Easily removable if your setup changes

• Works with many factory and aftermarket spare tire carrier configurations

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my vehicle?

The mount is designed to work with most rear-mounted spare tires between 33" and 40". This includes many popular Jeep, Bronco, Toyota, and overland platforms.

Why mount MAXTRAX on the spare tire instead of the roof?

For many builds, roof rack space is already dedicated to tents, fuel, water, storage, lighting, or camp gear. Mounting recovery boards on the spare tire keeps them accessible while reducing clutter on the roof.

Can I store gear behind the MAXTRAX?

Yes. One of the added benefits of the design is the storage space created behind the recovery boards. Many customers use this area for soft shackles, recovery ropes, tree savers, and other trail essentials.

Will the mount hold up to off-road use?

The system is built from durable 5052 aluminum and designed specifically for the demands of off-road travel and overland use while keeping weight to a minimum.

If you're looking for a secure way to carry recovery boards without sacrificing roof rack space or interior cargo capacity, the MAXTRAX Spare Tire Mount Kit is worth a closer look.

We're happy to answer any questions about fitment, compatibility, or installation.

MaxTrax would look pretty stupid mounted on the spare tire of a Ranger.
Everyone builds their rigs differently based on how they use them. For some people, spare tire mounting is a practical way to keep gear accessible without taking up bed or roof space. It may not be everyone’s preference, but it works well for certain setups and use cases.

I see this option as a semi universal product that shows off very well innovation and quality, I'm certain there are future AAL RR/Ranger specific products in the pipeline and I'm so glad there are companies that offer such options and share the opportunity to push forward what people can do make their vehicles suit their needs better. I'm fortunate to be able to use AAL parts on my Ranger and like many others look forward to new possibilities and options for both our Rangers, but also more universal solutions that can be used for and across multiple applications, it just makes sense!
