Tailgate troubles -- cable being exposed upon closing

Maybe not a good idea for the oil inside. They are generally designed to have one way facing up.
Mine started doing this after I added a tailgate seal kit for some reason.

Every 5-6 closes of the tailgate results in this cable being exposed like this. Any ideas on how I can eliminate this from happening?

Out of curiosity @Ford Motor Company, when you send this cookie cutter message to all the people suffering from Ford build quality issues what are you exactly doing or next steps being provided? Because when I talk to my dealer about the leather seat quality, panel gaps, door closing issues, hood closing issues, tailgate cable issue, and many others they scratch their head and say they can’t reproduce or see the issue. I LOVE this truck. But I think Ford build quality is one of the lowest in the world currently and the issues are not being backed up or corrected by your dealers.

Solved! Thanks for the suggestion in the thread here. I had several bags of excess materials from mounting tvs and found spacers that were the perfect size. Two of these pushed the dampener over just enough so the cable isn’t getting caught anymore.

Brillant fix! I started having this issue and I was so focused on resolving it by doing something to the cable hardware, I didn't even think doing something to the damper. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips, I've only had mine 3 weeks and I too noticed this, now I have a fix.

TTT. Nice! Been having the same problem and found this thread buried in the search. I just placed a shim on the bed side which worked pretty well. (Temporary to see if it worked...Don't beat me up for the install! LOL) But I'll try spacing the strut as shown. Thanks!
