Changed the oil for the first time yesterday since my wife‘s EDGE was due. I always change mine when she needs hers changed. She drives a couple times a year to visit her mom or daughter. She had about 7400 miles since the last change, I had 2800 since I bought it in July.
st observation, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting from reading the many posts on this site in preparation for doing the job. I reached down from the top, used my right arm. I have a HUSKY stubby socket wrench that is 1/4 on one side and 3/8 on the other. An oil filter wrench (74mm, 14 flute) $8 from an Advance Auto parts. I had to use a step stool (5’7”) and lay across the top of the covered fender. Tight fit and would be difficult with “Popeye” forearms. I don’t have that issue.
nd observation, I have always used K&N filters(HP 2002) on all my oil changes. I believe they are high quality filters and I like the idea of the 1 inch “nut” on the end so you can put a wrench on it. As I secured the filter, I wondered about getting a wrench down there to remove it, but that will be figured out down the road (see observation #4 below).
rd observation, it seems a bit of a pain to remove the plastic shroud with the 6 15mm bolts holding it in place to drain the oil. I am sure there is a better way. I think a drain pan could slide in there and angle to the 4x6 (approximately) hole in the drivers side of the shroud with a lip to drain into the pan. MUSOLOGY are you listening? Here is another free idea for you. As an alternative, one of these flexible filters from Amazon ($13) might work.
th observation, I say possibly my last because next time it is due I’ll be close to my 71st birthday. Maybe time to let someone else crawl around on the concrete.
