Just wondering what everyones' experience has been with the Ford Performance Tune - Specifically with the transmission shifts and behavior. I love my truck but sometimes this 10R60 does weird things (Hard down shifts, delayed shifts etc.) and I really feel like its more software related (especially with only 4000 miles on my truck) I'm sure the valve body isn't the best either but I plan on doing transmission fluid flushes and filter /fluid changes much earlier than Ford Recommends. I do have confidence that the updated CDF drum and Anodized outer shell have solved the major mechanical issues with these transmissions based on what I've seen online in tear downs etc. They're pretty simple inside.

I'm also very confused because Ford Performance lists the 2.7tune for the 2024 only but the description says 24-26 - I guess I'll need to call to verify.

As a proponent of modifying with a purpose, the addition of Ford's ProCal4 tune has met my expectations. But as a career modifier, I always start with the exhaust and chose the Borla. With what goes out of the motor attended to, I added the tune. Then of course I had to address what goes into the motor and just added the S&B Cold Air Intake. Now I can profess that my 2.7 sounds and acts like a truck with moderate modifications that retains my factory warranty.

@Donnie B any improvements with the shift mapping from the Ford Performance tune? The truck doesn't really need more power with the 2.7 IMO, I'm more concerned about getting rid of these funky shifts in normal mode.

Can I ask how you like your S&B Intake? I got the AFE (at the time of purchase, that was all that was available).

I am considering changing as I was looking for a bit more intake noise... the AFE is QUIET.

THanks!

I have the Ford tune on my 2024 XLT with the 2.3L. I like the added power, but I have not noticed any improvement in the hard downshifts and occasional rough upshifts since getting the tune (almost a year now). I lost 1-2 mpg, but I drive it a little harder now to take advantage of the added power, so it could be my driving more than the tune itself.

The upgrade was worth it in my opinion.

As for shifting improvements. Deb says ABSOUTELY and keeps it in Drive/Normal. Me however....Sport and sometimes Normal mode, but I manually shift through the gears and get the RPM's up between 4K and 5K when shifting. This is where I find the Ford tune most beneficial. But remember, the tune had go through government EPA channels for approval, so don't look for miracles.

Now as for intake sound, I can't say I notice one over the Borla growl which got a little deeper with the S&B.

My 24 with 2.3 feels so much better in the procal for shifting versus stock. I get funky shifts so little that I could probably say never and it would be basically the same amount

I got the tune very early in my truck's life (I think less then 5k miles when installed) and now have 26k on it so it's been on a bunch of miles.

I also changed the trans fluid way early, just before 10k miles, to get the fluid and small particles from the trans getting broken in, out of the system.

Thanks for everyone's input, I run my truck on 91 Octane anyways so I think I'm going to go ahead with the Ford Performance tune mostly to improve the shift mapping.

The Ford Performance site has also been updated and now shows correctly on the page and when filtering that the 2.7 tune is for 2024 - 2026 ranger models

I do not feel much if any power difference on my 25 2.7 with the Ford Procal but the shifting is much better.
My truck only has 890 miles on it though

That's good to hear, I'm much more concerned about the shifting - truck with the 2.7 doesn't need more power IMO but the shifting drives me nuts sometimes. When its not being funky the 10R60 is great but the random odd shifts is off-putting to me.

I have a '25 XLT with the 2.7L and haven't noticed any shifting issues. It never shifts hard or randomly. Maybe it's worth it to have your local dealer install the tune and reset the entire programming of the transmission while they are at it...?
The only thing I don't like about the truck is the turbo lag and delay in downshifts. I want to mash the gas and instantly have the transmission downshift and spool up those turbos even in normal mode. But, I suppose that greatly affects their ability to get the MPG rating consumers are always bitching about.

I know many are hesitant to go with aftermarket tuners but they can adjust every aspect of your driving experience including the hard shifting and shift points. It’s not a one size fits all tune. As far as warranty all the top tier tuners make good and most of all safe power.

But if it voids your warranty (and rightfully so) it's not worth it.

I'm probably blowing it out of proportion, the truck shifts great 90% of the time, but its that 10% when its a harsh downshift or its trying to figure out what gear it should be in while turning at speed that make me wonder sometimes lol

I hear ya, and you're absolutely right that the aftermarket tuners have way more control and gains etc. but I don't want to take the chance of voiding the factory warranty. This is only my second new vehicle ever so... I rather not risk the warranty while I still have it.
