I took my Ranger Raptor with 5000 miles to a local Ford dealer for my first oil change and one recall. I came back to the driver's side interior scratched. The dealership denies that they did anything. "We get in and out of the car the same way you do." I was lucky to notice it before I left the dealership, but I'm guessing there is not much I can do. I know it's a car, and it will get messed up over time, but it's never fun to have something you paid for get messed up by somebody else. There were

Took the truck to Line-X for a bed spray-in. It was just 1 week old, and I got it back with overspray everywhere, a scratched tailgate, and damaged paint.

Took the truck to get PPF installed a few days later, and got it back with cuts on the paint in some areas where they cut the tape, along with stains on the windshield that won't come out.

Took the truck for its first oil change at the dealership, along with a J-brace install and door realignment, and got it back with a dent and scratches.

I'm tired of complaining everywhere—absolutely no one takes care of the car the way we do. Few take accountability, and even fewer bother to make things right.

At this point, I'm just going to handle as much as possible on my own and avoid having anyone else touch it.

If they can’t do something as simple as an oil change without causing damage, they don’t deserve your business.

Some things I would accept as small but aggravating inconveniences. But paint damage severely devalues the vehicle.

If it's my vehicle, I'd get an estimate from a good body shop and present it to the Line X guys, ppc shop, etc. If they decide to just deny responsibility, I'd file a lawsuit in small claims court.

In Texas, the limit is $10,000 for small claims, and lawyers aren't required or even allowed (unless one of the parties happens to be a lawyer.)

In my experience, most places will own up and pay after they get served.

That really sucks! I hate that for you as well.

I'm certainly one to tackle as much as I can on my own but sometimes lack the equipment or precise knowledge to do it myself. I'm usually anxious when letting someone work on my vehicles.

Perhaps a good detailer would know how to minimize the scratches.

This serves as a reminder to take pictures or video of as much as we can before handing our vehicle to someone.

Go back to the dealer or call and ask for their insurance carrier information. Let them know you’re going to file a claim against them directly. They’re in care and custody of your vehicle when you drop it off for service by law. Otherwise, by law they’re responsible for any damage incurred while in their possession.??

I would contact the owner of the dealership.

Based on the original post, that's a very minor issue. You're correct, but as a practical matter that fight doesn't make sense. If by "dealer," you're including the paint protection people and the Line-X folks, then yes. The principle is the same, but whether they have applicable insurance is another matter.

Contact the owner of the dealer and complain. Hit social media, leave poor reviews, complain to Ford corporate, etc. Keep up the pressure.

If they still don't budge, the other option is to take them to small claims court. In most states it's a small fee, some paperwork, and you don't need a lawyer. If you have a decent case, they'll likely settle before it ever makes it to court. That being said, this process can be long, stressful, and a lot of work. You may not even win. You need to decide for yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze.

If you don't want to deal with court then make a claim with your insurance company. They will more or less take care of all of the legal procedures for you through subrogation. Just be warned that this has a good chance of increasing your rates. I would personally look into how much it would cost to just replace the door interior myself before I went down this route.

I know this isn't much help now but I have had problems with my dealership before. I video the interior and exterior with a picture of a newspaper with the same date of my appointment. It seriously hacks me off when people damage my property. I am always so careful to prevent this type of thing and I expect the same from anyone that touches my truck.

Yes it’s a “dealer” can mean Line-X. Yes, all companies with an active business license must have insurance to operate.

However, I was commenting to the op, obviously, as I quoted him directly but it applies across the board. It’s obviously not a “minor” issue to the owner and certainly not an inexpensive proposition to him either.

I’m not referring any other response, as they’re off topic from the op’s original issue. Which is where any further comments from me will remain. Have the courtesy to keep it there as well. The thread wasn’t started by you, hence it’s not about you.??

Hey, upside is the part isn't terribly expensive and easily replaceable. Sorry it happened but it could've been the dash!
