For those of us buying new (oem or aftermarket) wheels for our rangers, what are you doing about TPMS? Is the oem tpms a common 315mhz? What, if anything, has to be done when installing these (anything in forscan, or just resetting tire pressure in the dash or something)?

I'm looking at these but haven't found any specific reference to what our rangers use from the factory: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRQVG1JK?th=1

I used the OEM tires so I swapped over the TPMS from factory wheels to new wheels. If you are going with a whole new setup, unfortunately I dont have an idea what would work.

Yes I'm specifically looking to set up a second set of tires and wheels so reusing the oem tpms isn't an option. The cost of mounting and unmounting snow tires every year adds up very quickly, not to mention the time and inconvenience.

Can you get a quote for the OEM TPMS from your local parts department?

probably. But my question is, again, what are others doing? I sent the link to what I was looking at as aftermarket ones are readily and easily available but it doesn't seem to be discussed a lot. And sure, I could have gone to the parts department and ordered oem wheels too, but I chose not to.

I just swapped out factory wheels and tires on my FX4 Lariat 2.7 yesterday (Falken Wildpeak - 265/70R17), and my local shop just used the same factory TPMS sensors. Displayed air pressure versus actual was spot on.

No need to be sassy. Just checking to see if you had a baseline option with a price to go from. Sorry for trying to help.

Sam's club and Costco charge ~$40.00 each, when you buy the tires from them. Seems like they were trying to to use a tool that didn't work and then the car auto detected the new tire setup after driving a short distance.

I just bought some off Amazon for my new incoming wheels. So if they work I shall report back. These ones work on lots of Ford's and the ranger was on the list. Just not our years lol

I think we’re thinking alike; I was going to “gamble” on the ones on Amazon that I shared a link for, but Ranger/hobb shared a link that has me thinking that the frequency isn’t 315mhz but might be 433. I’d appreciate your sharing your experience here so we can all learn from it.

That last part is encouraging that the truck will just recognize the new tpms set rather than needing forscan or some such. I haven’t needed to do anything on my other cars beyond buying compatible tpms units and tire rack took care of that for me. Does your Costco invoice have any details about which tpms unit they used? Or which frequency?

I bought a basic set of Shrader TPMS with my setup; I didn't have to do anything, plug n play, truck recognized them with no issues.
