Would like some suggestions or advice on improving the accuracy of the Trip MPG Gauge in my XLT. It is consistently 1-2 MPG higher than manual calculations after refill. I am getting tired of manually calculating.

I have updated the tire size in forescan which has corrected the speedometer(was 2-3 MPH high). I have also changed the fuel tank capacity in forescan to 18 gal. It was listed as 21 gal. If anyone knows of a different capacity please let me know.

Thanks for any assistance.

normal for the computer to be generous on the mpg compared to what it actually is. for instance, i filled up yesterday and my dash was showing 27.7 but when i did it manually, the real MPG was 26.7.

Wow. So the current actual manual gas mileage divided by the current reading is the afe bias?

Part 2: Calculate the new AFE Bias value
Find the current AFE Bias value in your vehicle's Engineering Test Mode (the default value is typically 1000).
Use the following formula to calculate your new AFE Bias value:
New AFE Bias = Current AFE Bias * (Actual MPG / Displayed MPG)
Part 3: Adjust the AFE Bias in Engineering Test Mode
Make sure your vehicle's engine is turned off, and all lights and displays are off.
Press and hold the "OK" button on your steering wheel.
While holding the "OK" button, press the engine "Start/Stop" button once (do not put your foot on the brake) or turn the ignition key to the "Accessory" or "On" position.
Continue holding the "OK" button until "Engineering Test Mode" or "ET" appears on the instrument cluster display, then release.
Use the up/down arrows on your steering wheel to navigate through the menu until you find "AFE Bias".
Press "OK" to enter the edit mode for the AFE Bias.
Use the up/down buttons to adjust the number to the new AFE Bias value you calculated.
Press "OK" again to save the new value.
Turn your vehicle off to exit Engineering Test Mode.

Wow! Want to come over and do it to my Ranger? What state are you from?

Thanks Superj! I just did this on my 2025 and it works. The "ET" appears small on the upper right of the Cluster display along with a small battery. You can clear the other warning messages first by hitting the ok and then hit the up button once and the AFE Bias will appear. Be careful not to change any of the other many settings other than AFE Bias that will come up if you continue to hit the up button or down button. There is a thread on this in the Maverick forum.

The consensus there is that Ford sets them all about 5% high so a setting of 950 is much closer than 1000. I am going to check 2 tanks worth and see.

Maybe your manual calculations are the source of the discrepancy you're seeing? It's not possible to have a consistent fill at the pump. The auto shutoff varies from pump to pump, temperature impacts the volume of gas in the tank as well as some accuracy variables of the pump itself.

I understand you thought process but I disagree that a 1-2 mpg discrepancy can be the difference in a manual calculation. The pump would need to be off by a couple of gallons per fillup.

Wow thanks everyone! Just yesterday I checked MPG out of curiosity, knowing it would be off. 24mpg display, 22mpg by hand. 9% high. Made me laugh and I never heard of AFE.

Is there a "top 10" or "fan favorites" for ET? Is changing AFE "safe", not gonna brick the truck? First time I've heard of ET. Will have to google and see what is there. I don't have fordscan hacker stuff.

I was assuming the mileage distance is accurate since vehicle is stock. But ya'll estimate that mileage on computer is 2-3% higher than real life. hmm

Thanks! Love hearing new stuff.

Check that link to the Maverick forum. Lots are adjusting it with no issues.
