Ive never experienced this before and it kind of freaked me out. I was on my way to work this morning. My commute consists of 35 miles of straight highway, and then 3 final miles of 0-40mph traffic lights.

While at the 3rd(of like 7) traffic light, the truck idled and then, instead of the start/stop initiating, the truck completely shut off. The battery light came on along with the check engine light. The transmission was still in D and the little white light on it was blinking. I put it into park and literally had to press the start button to turn the truck on again.

Once it restarted it idled very low, at around 500rpm. I kept feathering the throttle until the light turned green just to make sure it wouldnt stall out.

It ended up driving normal the remaining couple miles, including the start/stop working properly at the next couple lights.

But this really caught me off guard. Has this happened to anyone else?

Wow, that's not a comfortable feeling. Curious what you end up finding out.

I had something like that on my previous Toyota. I could never really track it down.

my best guess is that it was something in the fuel system as I started using fuel system cleaner periodically and didn’t have the problems anymore.

I hope you figure it out

Wow, that would be an eerie situation.
I have not seen that happen to either of mine, but probably won’t since I installed start stop eliminators in them pretty much the day I got them home, or soon as I possibly could.

In order for the ignition to completely shut off, I am thinking more of a computer glitch then anything engine or fuel related.

A weak battery could play into it, which a defective battery even in a brand new vehicle, are not unheard of. It happens, a bad cell could trigger a system wide power loss.

I'm betting on a bad battery. Ford had a massive recall on batteries and the symptoms closely mirror yours. Besides... Batteries fail. A test of your battery might not reveal a problem if it's an intermittent short.

Hopefully it just lasts another month before I get rid of it. Not looking to pay for a new battery just for now.

This happened to my 2024 Honda Odyssey a month ago. Only difference was it would not turn back on for like 5 minutes. It would turn on to ACC but not actually start. Got it to a dealer once it started up again and they said it was a bad battery. Replaced the battery and haven't had any issues since.

How many miles do have isn’t the truck is it not still within the 3yr 36k warranty period.
I thinking the battery would be covered under warranty.

It's under warranty. If it's the battery it will be free.

Ford's original vehicle batteries are covered for recharging and replacement during the first 3 years or 36,000 miles from the Warranty Start Date.
