I have seen some posts about under hood, lighting, LED strips and such, but decided to go a different route. I only have the bracket made at the moment, and still need to tie it in, but this is what I chose to do. This light was on 1988-1998 GM (and possibly Jeep?) trucks. I added one to my 1986 Turbo Buick as well.
What I like about it as it has a magnetic base, and a 16 (or 18?) foot long lead, so you can basically reach anywhere on the vehicle with it.
Edit: Motor Trend article on them: https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1606-led-revival-of-a-gm-underhood-reel-light
