From the responses where people actually mentioned which engine they have, or have it in their signature, it appears to be only on the 2.3. Maybe it just because it's a smaller engine and has to work harder.
A perfect example of this is the 2.0 4 cyl diesel engines in the newer Sprinters, the oil temp in those runs a lot higher than the older Sprinters with the 3.0 V-6 diesels. The smaller 2.0 is actually rated higher HP and torque as well which in my mind tells me the programming is pushing them pretty hard. It is not uncommon for those to hit 270F oil temps on grades and de-rate till things cool down.
Should not really be an issue though with good full synthetic oil and reasonable change intervals.
