So, got in the RR and got a "service soon" pop up and the wrench symbol.
Strange, had it happen once before a couple months ago but it never came back, service is ok. I don't have the CEL iluminated.

Immediately felt a lack of power and sure enough, no boost on the dash gauge. Checked the codes with OBDLink and it gives P2AB9 and P2AB9-00. Tried clearing the codes but it's permanent.
Checked the engine bay and the underside, 1 wastegate points up and the other one down. 1 rod was extended and 1 was pulled inwards, but that's perhaps normal bc of a mirrored setup?
I was able to move them both so the actuators aren't stuck but codes and lack of power remain after a short drive also.

Anyone else had this happen? It's a holiday weekend over here so I can't get to the dealer before Tuesday morning.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I did hear a faint, but fast ticking or rattle in the past when on boost, which I thought could be wastegate rattle if that's possible with these turbo's.

After sitting for 20 hours, the "service soon" pop up and wrench symbol are gone and boost/power is back.
The P2AB9 permanent fault code stays though, all the pending faults are gone. Any ideas?

no idea here but i would take it to hte dealer so they can see the code and log it on your record in case it becomes a larger issue later on

Code was gone after all ofc when going to the dealer so they couldn't log it.
But hey, it's back now and again no boost. Combined with code P2AB7, again the wrong "service soon" pop up and the wrench symbol instead of the check engine light.

I'll try to stop by the dealer tomorrow, again, sigh... This doesn't make me happy.

Called the dealer first thing in the morning and asked if I could stop by today so they could log the codes and go from there for an appointment.

"Not possible, we're swamped today and because it's Friday, the techs stop at 3 PM, can't help you." I was like, what? It's 5 mins to hook up the code reader and you've said it yourself that it's important tot get them logged. I'm expecting a better service than that tbh. It's almost weekend again and otherwise I'll be resetting them myself.
I was getting kinda pissed...

Long story short, I can go to another location of them before 4PM.

I'm keeping the story up to date for future reference.

When the fault is active the boost is very erratic. Sometimes no boost at all, sometimes 0.5b but very slow and jumpy getting there etc. Not fun to drive.

They hooked it up to their Ford software so it would be logged so to speak but they didn't have time to do the in depth diagnose. They tried resetting it, didn't work. Opened the hood for some reason and I had to point out that there are 2 turbo's and where they were, so yeaaaaah...

The next day at home I was able to manually put the actuator about half way and reset the codes again, that did the trick. For now that is.

I'm stopping by at the dealer later today to discuss what to do next. I'm hoping they have enough proof now to do something about it without the fault needing to be present again.

Have them check the waste gate solenoid. Also there are blow off valves in the intercooler pipes that can malfunction. Just a guess.

The wastegates uses electric actuators and not solenoids as far as I could see. My guess is indeed faulty actuator or too much play already in the wastegate itself

Decided to try and run it untill after the dealer's holiday but it came back already on the way home. Was doing a bit longer pull when I saw my boost go down accompanied with the "service soon" chime right after and again zero boost from then on.

Got back on the phone with them and we'll try to make something happen with their other location. But they wanted me to drop of my RR so they could "work on it when they had an opening" and they couldn't give me a replacement car which kinda is an issue. I also don't want my truck sitting on their lot without some concrete arrangement and for an unknown time.

Found this on the Maverick forum btw:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/p2ab9-engine-code-issue.66517/

Someone had a new actuator fail again after 1 week and was afraid it was bc of a faulty wastegate itself.

I know it is integrated but sometimes I just use that term from all the jobs I have done in the past decades. I don't know why the dealer is dragging there feet with this guys Ranger.

I was able to get them to order the actuator beforehand so I would have to leave my RR there for 1 day only. They'll be doing the in depth diagnose tomorrow and probably will be replacing the actuator. I wasn't able to recreate the fault in the meantime ofcourse.
