I just spoke with my dealer regarding the J Braces. He said that they are currently listed as an outstanding FSA( field service action) on my truck and that they will be covered under warranty if it arrives without them. He is going to order them in case. He also said “We should know for sure when it ships. If it has a green wrench on the locator and the Oasis report doesn't list it . It will have been installed prior to delivery” he sent me this screenshot.

No recalls or CSP's yet, I'd assume this would fall under CSP. But there are a few TSB's already, likely due to our overseas brethren taking point.

It's going to suck if some poor chap doesn't know about this issue and installs something common that damages the truck bed.

Sometimes I wonder where our engineering went but then I'm reminded how my own engineering is constantly restricted by Marketing, management and cost savings. All for our shareholder overlords.

I was just told by a service manager that the J braces and labor are only covered under warranty if you get a bed topper. And that photo submission is required. Otherwise you’ll have to pay.

That is about a $400 saving if the whole warranty thing comes true.
Assuming you were buying the braces out of the accessory catalogue and paying the dealer stated fee for installation of the braces.
I am needing the braces for toolbox and headache rack. So, I hope we get some more clarity on this, and it is proven to be covered under warranty.

Was also told that the bed topper has to be ford brand too. As of now, nothing else qualifies for the free j braces and install.

My dealer said nothing about any of that. Did you have your dealer check their computer? I attached a screenshot above of FSA. No where does it mention that there are requirements for it. My dealer just told me it you’d be taken care of if it arrives without it.

Yes. He looked into the specific FSA you posted. If your dealer looks into it deeper, it will show that the parts are included in the bed topper kit, and you’ll get a $169 refund for installation. However, you must get a ford brand topper. Nothing else qualifies. It is a bummer.

Hmmm….. I’m not getting a topper, but my tonneau cover is just above 90Lbs (Ford says J braces are for anything above 88lbs)so I figured I would get them just to be safe and because if they’re free I might as well take them up on the offer.

I’d rather have them too. Let us know if your dealer ends up offering them for free. I was told that, without a pic of the bed topper, ford would charge the dealer back for the warranty work.

I plan on getting a tonneau cover also. I can't imagine it would do damage but if it does Ford had a major issue.

I just contacted my dealer and they have the same information listed that there is a TSB or Field Service Action or whatever it's call for my truck. I'd recommend contacting the service dept. of your dealership.

I wonder if other accessories from Ford will count? They sell a Ford Branded Retrax XR and a motorized Leer Bed Cover that can't be used for part of their intended purposes without the J-brace kit either. Both are designed to use above the bed racks systems.
Doesn't look like it. The topper page specifically mentions it in the description, the items you linked do not say anything.

I don’t think I will have an issue either … I’m only 2 lbs over the recommended weight limit, but just want them if Ford is paying for it and because Ford should deliver a vehicle that can handle a bed cap regardless if I’m getting one or not. Especially if I’m spending 60k. My tonneau cover supposedly can take 400lbs on top of it… not that I plan on putting anything on top of it, but without the J Braces that weight limit is moot.
