Hey folks, in case anyone was wondering what the situation was on tuning for the new RR, I contacted 5-Star to find out where they were in development. The following is the response from 5-Star:

Hey Russell

We need SCT and HPTuners to release support for the 24's. They are both still working on. Once they release it we will be able to start tuning them. I do not have an eta on that release as of yet. I would check back with me in a few months to see if anything changes

There are quite a few tuners out there, including FORD, but 5-Star has a great reputation, and would probably be my first choice if a factory tune is not available.
I have on my RR the burger tuning module and im very happy with the results. +70 whp tested on the dyno

So, let me see if I’ve got all this straight:
1) 100+ HP over stock
2) 150+ TQ over stock
3) Maintains FORD factory warranty
4) <$4K USD installed

I’m ready to feel the thunder from down under! Does anyone know if they have a stateside rep?
Not sure how to read their info....but that seems to be the claim. The question is why is this not available in US and how much of the 100 HP increase is attributed directly to the tune without the other mods in their package - surely intercooler replacement adds more to price than the tune??? And why could you not just buy the tune, considering the initial price of the Ford tune in 2019 was what? $850 I think I paid? Don't want the intercooler or other stuff.

I had a Jb4 piggyback on my supra until I went full custom tune with a different tuning platform. It was great, no complaints. Probably going to do the same for the RR. It was also "easy" to remove if I ever went to the dealership. (I didn't)

From my understanding, the Intercooler is the “weak link” as far as performance, or at least sustained performance of this engine is concerned. The factory intercooler becomes heat soaked very quickly; IAT goes up, and the computer dials everything back to compensate. A good intercooler (COBB / DynoMotive) is going to cost you $1K, not including the cost of installation. When you consider that there are no other current options (without an additional module), the tune adds roughly 2.5X the HP/TQ to the 3.0L EB engine as the FORD factory tune adds to the 2.3L EB engine, and you retain the FORD factory warranty, that price doesn’t seem so bad. I would expect that a similar package from FORD is going to cost north of $3k, and we’re probably looking at 1-2 years before that hits the streets.

I saw a video of a shop in Aus doing a dyno run on a RR and the intercooler and airbox were 2 things holding the engine back. Replaced them and the tune could actually do its job.

Herrod only does in house packages and tuning and doesn't do anything in the states. Unfortunately, it's off the table for the time being.

Makes sense but above my mechanical knowledge or abilities. Now if Ford added an intercooler in the kit with the tune I could find the money. I can't get any info out of my contact at Ford Performance.

What map are you running and do you have any mods?
Hi, Im running map 3 normally and map 5 in sport mode.

Im able to run the e30 maps because I have meth injection, larger intercooler and CAI, you can check my posts with the dyno graph and pics on that.

This engine is sensistive to knock if you dont have the proper octane rating/fuel. With std gas you can only do maps 1 or 2 max.

Take care,

I run 93 octane and have run map three but I'm running map 2 in sport and map 1 in all other modes.
What does your A/F mix look like? I find that mine is always at or below 14.7 which is good but I wonder if I should turn up the bias a bit. I really haven't explored the settings on this like I did my Outback.

Hi, Inuse 93 octane as well everytime I can get it, which is most of the time. The AFR is most of the time at 14 or so, but under heavy boost it goes down to high 10's.

Take care,

I sent an email off to Cobb Tuning as well, to see if they had something in the pipeline. There isn't anything concrete, as far as an ETA, but they did say to keep an eye out for more in the future.
