I sometimes wonder if they gave me a different engine based on all of your MPG posts

Against my better judgment, I am going to assume this isn’t a troll post from someone that has nothing better to do than coast down a hill to get some false numbers for some delusional sense of entertainment and recommend you to take your ranger to the dealer for a diagnostic.
Doing some basic math using the miles to empty and fuel level from the provided picture one could extrapolate that on a full tank, you would be at approximately 350 miles to empty on an 18.7 gallon tank. Therefore more like 18-19 MPG.

Yeah not sure. My mpg has been going down, as has the GOM with the cold we’ve had but today it was back up a bit. I can say, I did do manual calculations and it’s roughly accurate so not sure.

I’m getting 18-20 MPG out of the 2.7L FX4, and I’m sure I could get it to 22 or more if I didn’t drive like Mario Andretti. 28 MPG out of the 2.3L is very possible with reasonable driving Habits.

I drove the gen5 Ranger lariat 2.3L 4x4 for 3yrs and I got 22.4 mpg around town and 26mpg on the highway. Unless all his driving is on the highway at 55mph, I don’t see how he’s getting 28mpg.
In the gen6 Ranger lariat 2.7L FX4, I’m getting 18.4mpg consistently around town with 2,600miles.

This is my first truck. I always (and I do mean always) average great mpg / range. Our EV as well I tend do better than the average. But this seems a bit wild haha

Yeah, I know lmao. It’s honestly a lot of rural backroads too, but I live in a major metropolitan area in the Midwest. Major town / city but there is plenty of rural space so I guess that’s a piece of it too.

Well, if it's working, you're in good shape. Congrats. I think with freeway driving on stock tires, I could muster 23-24 mpg...maybe a bit more, but that's downhill on many stretches and that's about Max on best case scenario. I run larger wheels now and city or mixed driving is sub 18 mpg for comparison, low 20's for freeway or open stretches.

I'm not sure if his XL is 2X4 or 4x4. An XL 2X4 could get 28 MPG without playing too many games with driving habits. Also, he didn't say if he was using premium fuel or not, I'm assuming he is using regular fuel. Premium fuel in a 2x4 platform with no heavy options could get a highway driver to 30 MPG with calm driving habits... I would have zero chance at that because I'm driving a loaded 2.7L and understand that, if you're not first you're last.

2024 Ranger XLT FX4 2.7L turbo. I just did a trip from NV to FL and back and got 19-20 mpg average for the round trip (calculated). All of it Hwy @ around a 70 mph average speed, meaning much of it was @ 75-80 mph (I40 EB, I10 WB)

Hand calculate your mileage. That's pretty high mpg, so I suspect your computer rather than everyone else's mileage.

Definitely calm driving habits.
It’s a 4x4, and I do use premium fuel. Didn’t think it made that much of a difference though

I have a Ford Ranger XL and drive predominantly in sport. Most of my driving (~9900 miles) with the exception of one trip to Colorado has been city driving.

I’ve dropped about 2 miles per gallon since I started paying attention a month or so ago but we’re going through a pretty bad cold snap so I assume I’ll be back up to 28.

I also don’t do anything out of the ordinary or crazy in terms of driving (like driving under the speed limit or whatever). Curious how you guys get bad gas mileage

I can do better. I average 29/30 mpg highway on an hour long trip for me that I take regularly. 93 shell fuel, 39psi, and it's a 4x4 xl ranger with no load. 65mph is the sweet spot. ill take a photo next time.

Nice! I haven't found that the price of premium fuel covers the difference in MPG. I see a 2 MPG improvement with 93 octane, but I would need a 4 MPG (or more) improvement to justify using premium fuel.
