I'm looking to buy some totes (2 or 3) for the bed, so that I can store some stuff, like a jack, small air compressor, tools etc. Anyone out there mind sharing their setup, or have some ideas? My plan is to have a tonneau cover and put a few totes near the front and strap them down.

Thanks

I bought a couple of these. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/plano-medium-storage-trunk and some of these https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/plano-sportsmans-trunk-100168779.

My tonneau cover arrives tomorrow so I will have to see how things fit. I wanted these for day trip stuff. A small stove, dry goods, tools and camp supplies. Haven't loaded them yet to figure it all out. It's been a little cold for that.
Thanks for the link, I live very close to a Bass Pro. Mind sharing a picture when you have it setup?

The Ranger Lariat is my first truck that I've owned, so all my prior vehicles were cars. I don't like having things just sitting in plain sight inside the cabin of a vehicle for the obvious reasons, so a car trunk was very important to me. I wanted to "simulate" a car trunk for my Ranger, so I spent the extra money and purchased a Diamondback cover. Next, I did not want items that I now will be able to place in the truck bed to roll and/or shift all around while stored. I looked into bed slides and drawer systems, and decided that they were not for me since those systems would either require mounting them to the bed or they would take up a lot of cargo and hauling space that I was not willing to give up. So I went the frugal (i.e., cheapskate) route and bought a 3-pack of storage bins from Costco and a couple of under-the-bed (the one you sleep on, and not the truck bed) storage containers with wheels from Target. The wheeled bins serve as makeshift drawers where I can pull them out onto the tailgate, place items in them, and then push them back into the truck bed. This is so I didn't have to climb in and out of the truck bed when I needed to put things back there. I "secure" the bins/containers in the truck with a couple of adjustable ratcheting cargo bars that I bought at Home Depot so that they don't shift around. Very MacGyver-ish!!!

I would have liked to have gotten a Diamondback cross bin instead of using the Costco containers, but DB does not make their cross bins for the 2024 Ranger.

I bought 2 large and 4 small HUSKY totes from Home Depot. I strap them down with AUGO retractable straps from AMAZON. Although with the heavy rubber mat they don’t shift any way. I can easily reach the top 2 boxes on either side. I use my cargo hook to pull out (and push back) the big ones.

For the price, the Home Depot XDX black and yellow bins are very hard to beat, they are tough, stackable and they nest (both horizontally and vertically) beautifully in the Ranger bed. I have a variety of them in the 17 gallon and smaller sizes. The bigger ones do not nest well. OTH they are only splash proof, they won't work well if you have more than minor water leaks under your cap or tonneau.

Mine are all stored away at the moment, I plan to load them into the bed in a week or two when I have finished a bed mod, then I will post some pics.

If you use a Bedbug, they do not slide around when full of your stuff, you don't usually need straps at all. Maybe a light bungee cord here and there.

I've gone through a bunch of different iterations of the bed setup and various boxes and finally settled on the Decked D-Co cases. I have one Halfrack 32 with all of my tools, another Halfrack 32 with some recovery and miscellaneous stuff, and a Sixer 16 with all of my tie-downs and bungees. I also have a Yeti Loadout GoBox 60 that I add to the bed with situation- or location-dependent gear (for example my Thor's Lightning air compressor and hoses, and kinetic recovery rope).

I found that the hardware store/costco tote bins are one or more of the following:
  • Too big: Sometimes I need to free up some space in the bed, and that requires moving stuff to the back seat. Having everything in one giant bin makes this a pain in the ass depending on what/whom I have in the back seat.
  • Too flimsy: I frequently use the bins as a step stool or makeshift table. Anything that can't be dropped out of the bed, stood on, etc isn't an option for me.
  • Not weather sealed: I have a bed cover (Revolver X4TS--which is amazing and I love it btw) but I don't care to spend the time or effort making sure my bed is perfectly dust and water sealed (it'd just get dirty as soon as I put the dog or a dirtbike back there anyway). I also periodically drive offroad or in the rain with the cover rolled up (e.g. when the dog is back there; or I have a bike or dirtbike back there), and don't want to leave gear behind and/or can't fit it all in the back seat.
The Decked D-co cases are the only thing that I've found so far that perfectly accommodate my specific use case. The Yeti Loadout GoBoxes are a close second. Hope that helps!

Yep, this just goes to show that there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Different situations call for different solutions. Nonetheless, I hope that you're getting a flavor of options out there. Good luck.

I was considering the Decked cases for my smaller stuff, but I was thrown off by the low recommended weight rating. For the small box - 10 pounds, Seriously?

If I had a Decked drawer system, I would definitely go for these. I can replace nine busted or cracked HDX bins for the price of one small Decked box….

The HUSKY bins that I have are polycarbonate and haven’t had any break (so far) . They can be used latched on the ends or on the sides so it acts like a hinged box. Or all 6 for a real secure seal. There is a 1/4 gasket around the lid so they keep moisture and dust out pretty well. While I don’t need to ratchet them down, if I do, I can (and have) gone through the car wash with my Rev cover locked open and the boxes in the back. If needed, I could put them all in the backseat or in the garage. The ONLY complaint is the width of the bigger boxes is that they are about 2 inches too wide. They would have been perfect if they fit in the other direction.

+1 for this. Except I got mine at Lowes. But I did find it a bit thinner, so I use it more for groceries lighter stuff. FOr the heavier stuff I got a husky box thats real nice.
