Went off roading on the beach placed the drive mode into sand. Lots of fun, but when I came off the beach and placed the drive mode into 2H normal and the rear locking differential stayed locked.
To disengage the differential for street driving, I had to go into the off road menu and deselect locking differential.
Is this the normal way to unlock the rear diff? I would think by selecting 2H normal the vehicle should reset the drive mode including unlocking the rear diff.

Seems normal from my experience. You can lock the diff in 2H also so if you only changed by selecting 2H and not changing drive modes from sand back to normal, seems like the proper engineering choice to me.

Looking at the manual, I see instances where it will automatically disengage, as in normal modes above 25 MPH, and auto-engages in sand mode. But I don't see that it disengages when move out of sand mode, which seems odd.

If I remember correctly when I drove off the beach with the locking diff engaged and then switched to two wheel drive I had to switch off the locker. I think this is normal. You can switch on the locker in two wheel drive as needed. It will disengage over a certain speed and the locking icon on the main dash display might turn a gray color to remind you your still switched on.

Kinda odd though. It seems that if it auto-engages when you switch to Sand or Mud mode, it should auto-disengage when you switch back to normal.

I saw the manual but I'm puzzled why it doesn't unlock when you put it in nirmal

Thanks. Good to know nothing is broken.
