Ok, I suppose both could be used if needed.

I might have used washer(s) for my former Tacoma. A $15 magnet protector was handy too.

Wedge shims on the rear leafs and axle of that Tacoma had the most effect at eliminating the vibration that was around 25mph.

I installed the shims it seems all of my issues are gone. Except that the dealer stripped out my weld nut that is part of the frame. So I had to double nut the bolt. Fortunately the tsb came with a longer bolt. The bolt was loose when I went to install the carrier shims. Yikes could have been bad. Looks like another trip to the dealer, or I will just get a longer bolt.

That's stripped nut and not mentioning it or repairing is a bad deal. Sounds like you are able to do a good repair and avoid another trip to the dealer. Still, it seems they should know about it, but at this point they would most likely deflect responsibility--which could be why the let you install the shims given your Ranger is in warranty.
