My 2025 Ranger STX was having some Transmission noise (whining) since the first week. Figured it might need to break in. Well it has gotten worse with now a high pitch whine from 3rd-4th gear shift. Brought it to the dealer and just got "The Call" Truck needs a new transmission. Only have 1600 miles on it. I am disappointed to have this issue so early on but 2 positive things are they are putting a brand new one in and they didn't just tell me it's "normal"

Yes I specifically said I wanted a new trans and they said with that mileage that's the only option. So that's a positive. I think (hope) it's a fluke because I really don't read about wide spread issues with the 24-25 ranger transmissions

I'd ask for a new cooler as well, if things came apart there will be debris in the (OTW?) cooler and in the lines. The 2.7 uses an OTW cooler fastened to the side of the engine block, if you have a 2.3 I have no idea what it has.

I wonder if there was a problem with the initial fill? No leaks?

No Drivability issues. Was a low whine since the first week of ownership that grew to a high pitch whine on the 3rd gear to 4th gear shift. They didn't specify what was worse just said bad trans.

Ask them if that will include a new cooler.

Ouch that sucks! But at least it's under warranty and they're taking care of it without pushing back. Hopefully it isn't in the shop for too long.

That really sucks to hear. Glad your dealer is just taking care of the whole thing though.

IMO, it's best that the failure was early, and not some latent problem that would show up later, like after the OEM warranty was up. If it had failed later, say 30K miles, you would be getting a rebuilt, or having that one repaired. I haven't seen too many failures (yet) for the 10R60.

Ditto on all that, good they're replacing it.

I will say I'm not really impressed with these transmissions. Mine has admittedly smoothed out quite a bit after about 5,000 km (3,000 miles) or so, but it still has a couple of issues. One, once in a while it still has to hunt for the right gear and then clunk into it, especially if having to suddenly accelerate when doing gentle highway driving. Two, on start-up the transmission doesn't just drop into gear at once but takes like two separate little clunks before it's fully in gear, which took some getting used to as I was taking my foot off the brake too soon and the truck would actually roll backwards for a second.

It's basically fine 98% of the time, but the other 2% still bug me. It's not enough to be an actual "problem", and maybe it's "normal", but all I can say is my 12 year old BMW in all the time of ownership never once had a mis-step in the transmission, as in, not ever not one single time. OK it didn't have 10 gears, I get that.

that clunky hard shift when doing a hard acceleration from cruising on the highway happens to me every once in a while, too, and i hate it. my wife's 2019 wrangler doesn't do it and its got the alfa romeo turbo 4 cylinder with the 8 speed auto trans so its comparable for how i think the ranger trans should feel.
