FYI the breakaway cable MUST connect directly to the receiver of the truck. One of the chain attach holes is fine. Hooking it onto the chain itself will not guarantee that the brakes will come on if the entire hitch comes out of the receiver. Some influencers say wrap it around the truck frame in case your receiver falls off, I hope a busted/ screwed up receiver would not be in use in the first place…. but there are some pretty scary trailer setups out there.

How do you like the hitch? Hard to adjust the spring bars? Noisy when turning? What is the weight? Thanks.

Best of luck , looking forward to hearing how it tows a load like that.

I am not seeing a sway brake , is not a thing anymore with modern sway control tech?

There is too much coiled cable for the EBA to be activated if those chains go tight in an emergency. fYI

I did not mention this earlier, but if it were mine, I would demand a replacement front mount assembly - yours is rusted like crazy already. It will only get worse…..

“ADVANCED PAINT TECHNOLOGY FOR SUPERIOR DURABILITY
E-coat Immersion ensures 100% coverage of complex parts, as well as uniform thickness. This in turn ensures superior corrosion protection.”

I think they missed a spot ;).

Really pushing the limit… wouldn’t even try. Once you throw in personal belongings, fluids in trailer and other things your way over 7500
The 6500 is likely the gross weight, payload on the truck is likely to be hit before max tow is hit though. Say the trailer is loaded to 6500, 13% for tongue weight is 845 leaving approx 500-550 for people, pets, fuel and gear in the truck.

I'm surprised that the gross is 6500 though, looking up the various Micro Minnes shows gross weights ranging from 5500 to 6000 lbs. and dry weights being in the low to mid 4000's.

I'm speculating it will be OK at lower speeds but might get sketchy over 55. But then this is all guessing and I am looking forward to a full and honest report as are others who are thinking about towing with these trucks.

A trip to the CAT scales, if not already done, is definitely warranted though.

I have to agree with Black Shadow, you're really pushing the limit. A good rule of thumb is to stay below 80% of the towing capacity, which is 6000 lbs for the Ranger which is rated for 7500 lbs towing. I tow a 3500 lbs travel trailer and loaded I'm sure I'm around 4000 lbs. I wouldn't want to tow anything heavier. If you do a search here in the forum, someone else was towing 6500 lb trailer.

I also wonder what the tongue weight is for your trailer? The Ranger is rated for 750lbs tongue weight

I wouldn't go faster that 55-60 mph towing that much.

Good point, that limits the trailer to around 5800 if going with the standard of 13% tongue weight

It also looks like your Blue Ox doesn’t include any sway control. Your gonna need that the first time you get passed by a big ole tractor trailer.
