Installing a different sub in the B&O subwoofer enclosure

I had an FJ Cruiser a few years ago and one of the best mods was swapping out the sub in the OEM subwoofer with a Polk Audio one and running an amp to it. Is there a similar upgrade for the B&O subwoofer? I don't want to install a separate amp, I just want to upgrade the existing subwoofer similar to how people have upgraded the center speaker. I've ordered the Focal speakers for Ford and those should be arriving in the mail today, would be great if I could just swap out the sub in the subwoofer as well.

I had my sub out with that in mind. It is 51/4 inch diameter and dual voice coil. The coils are in the 4-5 ohm range according to my voltmeter. It looks like a 6 1/2 inch might fit but would require it to mount on top of the enclosure further requiring a short fill piece on the lower edge. While it was out I added some butyl sound deadening on the accessible interior surfaces and on the outside surfaces as well. It has cleaned up the bass quite a bit.

On Crutchfield several reviews mention replacing subs in the stock enclosure on the broncos. One is a ranger with our box. The sub he used was almost 1k though.

Oh that might be an easy mod as well, I’m sure I’m going to have extra sound deadening once I’m done with the doors, will try and do what you did as well, worth giving a shot.
