Following a nightmare experience with a Tundra and a spray-on bed liner outfit (where they sand the bed paint anyway), I went with the Ford drop-in and mat (which I trimmed a little for improved fit). Figured if I kept the truck long enough and wanted to convert to spray-on, whatever sanding and surface rust was created by the drop-in could be resolved with the sanding and scuffing they do at the spray-on bed liner outfit. Could be wrong, but has not recovered from Tundra experience when I bought Baby Raptor. My truck came with the drop-in bedliner. About 6 months after purchase, I removed it to see if it damaged the bed paint. Sure enough, I had wear-thru in several places. I kept it out and ordered a Lasfit bed mat. The mat protected the bed floor well, but I was careful not to damage the wall and wheelhouse paint.
For more info and pictures, here are two articles I wrote on it.

Me tooBed mat has been great. I've kept several things loose in there and frequently get off the pavement. Holds whatever in place just fine.
Wish I could find a tailgate mat that's worth a damn...
