Well I asked Leer about those shims and they showed where they go.
The shims are to be installed like they are in the picture. They are to be slid in between the plastic bed rail molding and the steel bed rail to prevent the plastic molding from deforming when you tighten the clamp.
There are different thickness shims in the kit. You will need to determine how many you need as the bed rail moldings vary.

No idea what these are? I have the 650 and no shims sent, noted, or installed?

After ordering I went to site and grab the installation PDF.
Lower right there is a note for Ford Ranger shims.

Hey guys, I've been going back and forth trying to decide on a tonneau cover for my 2024 Ranger with a 5ft bed.

Hard folding covers seem solid and secure, but I keep hearing about added weight and reduced bed access, especially if you frequently load and unload the bed. On the other hand, soft roll-ups look much easier for day-to-day use, whether it's for daily driving or weekend gear.

I've been checking out a few of the more talked-about options first, like Truxedo for soft roll-ups, Lomax for low-profile soft covers, and Leer for hard folding styles. I've also seen some budget-friendly choices mentioned, like Tyger and Garvee. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the options and not sure which one to pick.

Any tonneau covers you'd recommend? Thanks in advance.
I'm with you! I want a tonneau cover with the following specs...
- is a hard roll up
- takes up zero bed space - ever
- when rolled up doesn't cover thr back window
- is waterproof
- doesn't use any velcro- what kind of idiocy is using velcro in a application like this!?
- can be removed and stored by 1 person in 2 minutes or less.

Well I just noticed that it shipped.
The PDF off of web site is one thing. But if missing I'll contact them as they replied that they are used.

I got a Leer 650 last week. I went through the the parts I got, comparing them to the drawing of the parts I should get appeared to be good. When I scanned through the installation drawings I noticed figure 3C on page one shows a clamp. I did not get. The one in the attached photo at the tailgate end. After looking at this thread, I also noticed what others have posted is very different than what I got. Three phone calls to leer last week have produced zero callbacks. Leer's customer service is horrendously bad. Makes me wonder that even if I get an answer on my current issue, whether they will be there to deal with warranty or replacement parts down the road.

Your post doesn’t include Bakflip mx4. Should at least check it out, watch some reviews while deciding. I think it’s the most popular option at this point

I’ve owned 3 of them and they have been excellent. To me, a hard cover is required. I spend quite a bit of time in cities while traveling with expensive gear in the bed, so something that provides a little security. It also folds up to give access to like 95% of the bed when needed. Also, with it raised there is (barely) enough room to fit a mountain bike over a tailgate cover. A lot of the tonneaus don’t give quite enough room
Got the X4ts hard roll up with the T-slot rails for my ‘25. I like the expandability of the T-Slots. I don’t think you can go wrong with mine or the folding one. Just depends on what you need for your application.

The cheap Tyger brand is surprisingly nice for the money. If you decide you wanna upgrade later sell it for 100-125 locally. That’s what I did. Have a WildTop soft topper now
