I know that Motorcraft oil filters are Ford brand..
Is using Supertech, Fram, AC Delco, Wix, etc.. not good?

I’m new to FORD, I just pick up a late 2025 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Sport Crew Cab. Gonna do an oil change at 750 miles for the first break in then at 1.5K miles, last will be at 3k.

Was wondering about the oil filters and all your thoughts.. thanks

Check out the similarities on this video.

Just did my first oil change and installed a drain valve.

The valve is a copy of the Ronin valve. Well built.
I actually bought the Supertech filter and used Kirkland 5 quarts to clean out the engine for 10 minute engine run. Drained that oil, then installed 6 quarts Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and installed a Fram Synthetic Ultra oil filter.

You will find that fat small “O” ring can be a booger to change out. See my post over at maintenance on how to change it.

Remember to use “clear flood mode” to fill the oil system.

Just follow the maintenance intervals provided by the engineers who designed and built the engine. They know more than you do.

I bought a pack of 10 Motocraft filters online for around $100 I think from https://ford.oempartsonline.com/

They’re bean counter engineers, there job is to always get you to spend money in the repair shop at the ford dealer.. After break in my OCI will be 4k miles

If you don’t think the ford engineers are any good, then why did you buy ford?

He didn't say "Ford engineers weren't any Good" In fact he said they were good at engineering the engine to get the most profit out of it for the ford brand. I believe all the manufacturer engineers are very good at getting their products past the finish line (warranty period) and then you'll buy another disposable unit.

As for oil filter, I use the motocraft on my fords, Mopars on my jeeps. 1000 mi. break in change and every 5K thereon out. I use Penzoil Platinum full sun. But many out there are great , I use Pennzoil because I've had two jeeps go over 300K (and still going) with this oil and change frequency.YMMV.

Just remember that the 2024 and 2025 2.3 engines use completely different filters with different threads.

the service interval is

Ford Service says an oil change is required on:
  • oil service indicator warning OR
  • one year OR
  • 10,000 miles.
I think 5K miles should be sufficient, 3K if towing

but I think that oil life indication is a bit smarter than in the past and it doesn't look like I will reach 5K on this oil change.

I might consider say

every year or
5K miles
or 50% (or some number) oil service life

which ever comes first

I think 5K is a good interval for most. There is information out there that changing oil too frequently is not ideal either as the most wear happens when the oil is new and the detergent package is at work. Recommendations from knowledgeable 3rd parties seem to favor 5K over the factory recommended 10K on most vehicles. One of the factors in a manufacturer setting the recommendation is EPA so consider that. Also, almost all manufacturers state that their maximum OCI recommendation is for normal duty under ideal conditions, many daily drivers may not qualify, even stop and go city driving, short trips, extreme temperature swings in damp climates, hot climates and dusty conditions can all be considered severe duty and won't qualify for extended OCI. Then there's the turbos, driving styles can greatly affect turbo use and turbos are not easy on your oil.
