2024 12v bed plug

To my surprise this doesn`t supply constant power, not even I timer to shut it off after a set time. Anyway to change this. I want to plug in a magnetic led emergency light.
Even the 2 factory bed lights don`t work unless the truck is on?

I haven’t experimented with the 12V plug but I know the bed lights can be turned on even with the engine not running, although they will automatically turn off after a while. You just tap the bed lights button to the left of the steering wheel.

Its colder than a witches tit outside but I just gave it a try....hitting that button turns on the bed lights, top light incorporated in the third brake light and the side mirror lights? I don`t need a light show, just want to illuminate under the tonneau cover.

the cargo light switch on the headlight control, should only turn on the cargo lights(high mount cargo lights, and the bed side lights)

The mirror lights, they shouldn't come on unless a door is open, or you have the Zone lighting turned on, but even then they are side zone, not rear zone. I use my rear zone all the time, hooking up my trailer. it is nice. and its only reverse lights(option to have them or not) and your cargo lights.

Does the trailer 7 way have constant 12V or only when a trailer is detected? That would be a good place to get 12V power.

edit: guess it only works with engine on. Honestly though I've been carrying an EDC (every day carry) flashlight for over 25 years and never need any auxiliary lighting. I started with Surefire E1E and now using a Fenix PD25R. barely bigger than a roll of chapstick and incredibly bright light with long lasting rechargeable battery. I was an electrician and when you work in attics and crawl spaces you never want to be without your EDC flashlight.

if you just want to make sure your emergency light is charged, having it charge when you drive around will be sufficient

you don’t need it to charged when the truck is off

i have a small sprayer that I use at the beach and just driving around is enough to keep it fully charged.

i believe if you go into the truck and press start button without your foot on the brake it will power up the auxillaey power and rhe 12 volt outlets

i believe you can use forscan to change the timeout

The time out is to prevent you killing your underhood 12v battery. It makes complete sense to have to run the engine to prevent the time out....do you want to run your 12v flat?

Problem is there is zero timeout on the 12v bed plug. Even in my previous 2019 ranger had a timeout/automatic shutoff on the 12v plug. I need to run a roof mounted magnetic strobe light with the engine off when I`m at the side of the road for short periods of time.

If you go into he owners manual there is a way to extend the time to 45 minutes, I don't remember the procedure.

of you turn the key to accessory mode, the 12v outlet should be energized.

That might help, but I don`t want everything else
