Not going to lie, as someone with a wild imagination on "what could be" I am really digging it...

I think the only way it will be a smash hit is if they can compete on the market with the new base model Land Cruiser in 2024.

People looking for an off-road SUV are going to flock to the Land Cruiser based on name and reputation only, so they need to price themselves under that to even begin to entice people away.

The backside is hideous and the engine is weak.

That being said, I wonder if there’s now room for the Everest to come stateside. The Timberline Explorer is laughable as an off road er and the Bronco is really more of a Jeep competitor. But an Everest Wildtrak or Tremor could probably give it a go against the 4Runner and Land Cruiser.

But really how much horsepower do you need for something outside of rock crawling and highly technical trails?

For general overlanding the engine seems like it would be fine.

Yeah the back end is a little minivan ish but I actually really dig the front end with the h lights and the grill DRL.

For me, personally, I view a powerful engine as a safety feature. To avoid an accident or a sketchy situation, I like the ability to move in all four directions. It gives me one more avenue of escape. If I’m sitting here saying “this is nothing but a dedicated trail vehicle” okay, sure, I just need enough torque to go down the trail. But this is a daily driving vehicle, and I don’t want to be caught in a bad spot because I couldn’t get around a situation on the highway.

By the way, the hideous tail lights are there so they could minimize the D-Pillar width so they could make the hatch opening bigger. Clever, but ugly.

I like it! I can see they’ll sell all they can make at a nice profit. People that look at a Defender or even the new LC, but need family wagon. Now can have the look at a price they can afford. It really is following in Ford’s footsteps, applying the Bronco Sport idea of a more off road looking, maybe even more off road capable, vehicle based on existing crossover vehicle mechanicals. Looks like a win for Hyundai to me!

Yep I keep hoping for this. I assume they’ve run the numbers & figure they’d need an additional assembly plant over the current one, but that potential profits wouldn’t be enough to justify that investment. It does seem there’s a huge space though for Ford to bring the Everest over. They probably don’t have budget to develop a fixed roof Bronco.

Great looking vehicle, but will never own a Hyundai with the network of shady dealers they have. They started off as almost a car for the special finance type and hence attracted bottom feeder dealers. Now they do truly offer some great products and are trying to go after a higher echelon of clientele, but where we are, the dealers are still bottom feeders and run their businesses accordingly. Not interested in dealing with that.

My friends that have bought Hyundai products love the vehicles, but hate dealing with the dealers immensely.

Well then there’s also the whole child labor issue.

Is this rampant & endemic? I’ve really only heard of it WRT cobalt for electric car batteries. Which of course are also used in the device I’m typing this on.

Thanks for the link. I’d have no idea this was happening in the US.

not to get political but.... child labor is on the rise in the US right now. 12-15 year olds are being hired everywhere from factories to McDonalds. Think a 15 year old died recently at one.
