Can anyone explain how Fords keeps their intake valves free of carbon deposits on the 3.0 eco boost engine, and should I get an oil catch can. Just purchased my 2024 Ranger Raptor. Thanks Shawn

They dont and if you want it is the short answer. Theres a longer technical answer for how they have designed the engine to handle it and there are various arguments online about if catch cans work effectively enough.

I know folks with the smaller 2.0 and 2.3 that have 150k miles never had to do anything. If and whenever it starts running ruff have the heads removed and walnut blasted. They say using only Tier 1 gas brands helps. Opinion's vary on if catch cans really help with anything

OP is asking about the 3.0 ranger raptor specifically. So the other engines need not apply

Racerx: unless Ford has a serious typo on their press release you are incorrect.

It is a typo. Even the wiring diagrams show two sets of injector circuits for the 2.7 and only one set for 3.0.

This is a typo that Ford still has not corrected. This has already been proven in previous threads/posts and even one 2024 Ranger Raptor owner providing pictures to prove it. The 2.7L V6 is the only Port & Direct Injected engine in the MY24 Ranger, regardless of version.

FYI if interested in quality of fuel can make a difference in the longevity (lack of) of valve carbon build up. I geeked out and posted the following link that the “type” of gas makes a difference in keeping the engine clean.

Motor Oil Geek – Additive video

One of the products the “Motor Oil Geek” recommends.

What you fail to understand is that it doesn't matter what fuel or what additive you put in your fuel when all you have is DIRECT INJECTION. Fuel is nowhere near the valves.

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged and intercooled EcoBoost V6 engine with direct fuel injection.

The 2024 Ford Ranger 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 engine uses both port and direct fuel injection.

The 2024 Ford Ranger 2.3 L EcoBoost engine uses direct fuel injection.

With port fuel injection, gasoline is sprayed into the intake manifold, where it mixes with air, and then is sucked down into the cylinders. Direct injection places an injector on each cylinder, spraying gasoline into the cylinder itself.

My intent was to be helpful to the Ranger community as a "whole". For those who want the information, may find it useful.
