There are at least three practices that they use to bamboozle consumers out of their money , extended warranties, outrageous high charges for parts and services and they love when customers come in with a trade, they practically pay 5 to 10 thousand below the vehicle's value then turn around and resell for a huge profit.

My local Ford dealer website shows $55 for oil change and tire rotation.
Thats with Motorcraft synthetic blend.

Full synthetic was something like $112.

Which make sense , the motorcraft full synthetic is pretty pricy even at discount parts houses.
Eberthibg I just looked up showed Full synthetic is about double the price of blends.
$ 12 vs $ 6 Per quart.
‘The OPs 2.3 shows to need 5.6 Quarts.

So what I had seen at the dealership quick lane was about double as well

No need to use full syn. Ford manual called for syn blend . Meets all specs . Do oil changes according to Ford manual.

No necessarily true, most dealers are pretty competitive on trades. Yes, they take them in lower than a street sale, but most then need to make them street safe, and that cost money, then lot ready (dents, tires, etc.) then advertising. Having been in a dealership for over a decade as a sales manager, it is rare you hit a home run on a trade. Also, with the advent of Carmax and the likes, they keep dealerships honest as they are competitive as well. We used to match Carmax, so that tells you something. Bottom line, I always tell people to shop your trade BEFORE buying a new vehicles. If a customer did not like my trade price, I openly told them to go get a competitive bid, most went to CarMax, and we would do our best to match it. It's not like the old day when you had uneducated customers. People know their vales these days.

As for oil changes, yes they love to get you in service, but don't go to the quick lane. Buddy up an advisor in service and they will usually discount the oil change for you. I used to get full synthetic for my good customer s for about $100 bucks.

Mobile 1 advanced Full Syn is just slightly more the Motorcraft Blend at local parts stores around the US. One is made by Conoco and by 1 Exxon. Full synthetic is better for Turbos than a blend, but blend meets Ford specs. But to get back to the point that was started. Why an oil change for a blend at $60 and a full synthetic for $200. They cost about the same, it was this persons dealer jacking him around. Go somewhere else or use a blend. Most of use have a different opinion on oil brand, DIY or not, change interval, blend, full synthetic, cold or hot climate. etc…….

Dealers use oil changes as a lost leader item to get consumers into their store. How often does the mechanic find warranty work that needs to be performed while doing an oil change. Hardly ever. Now, once the warranty has run out, suddenly all this extra work needs to be performed. And most of the time all they say is this is a safety issue. You don’t want to be broke down or the side of the road do you. Scare tactics.

Some of you will relate to this. There is a gas station in Beaver Utah. Pull in with your truck & tailer the owner will run out and greet you. He washes you windshield and walks around and looks at your tires. Then say Oh My, you have a bad tire and it’s close to blowing. Then sells you a whole set of trailer tires. Scare tactics and dealers are no different. Mechanics, service writers and the dealership all have financial incentives to sell us more. They all understand our money is better off in their pockets than ours.

Some good points have been made here. There also have been some misconceptions pointed out by all. These discussions should help us all be better informed consumers, whether you agree with everything or not.

Cheers!

I wrapped everything in the splash zone with aluminum foil and created a shield with cardboard to redirect any oil into my drain pan. Also lay down some cardboard on the driveway.

I have changed my oil one time and I don't remember any mess. In fact it was one of the most eazy ever.

There is no valid reason, other than greed, that a full synthetic oil change should cost that much more. Find another dealer that isn't trying to bend you over.

I use Motorcraft Synthetic Blend and Motorcraft filter as long as it's in warranty.
I'm 72 and do my vehicles myself.
This way I know it's done right.
I also like to check out what's happening underneath.
There is a good You Tube on how some Ford dealers try and upsell and what to watch out for.
