I mean 2026 is 3 years, so this makes sense for an update or refresh. Its late for the rest of world, but I think Ford ultimate goal is to catch the Ranger up in the NA market to the ROW by 2029 from a production standpoint. This would align with other moves they have with increasing production in Canada and such.

Refreshing every 2-3 years is going to be the norm until the software becomes more standardized. The one good thing Tesla has done for the industry is OTAs, which means its forcing other manufacturers to align with a similar strategy for infotainment stuff. Maintaining a single OS, across x year platforms is far easier then maintaining multiple variants of non-updateable OSes. This is also something the general populace accepts. We will eventually see cars get to the point of 5 to 7 year security and OS updates as part of the selling package, similar to how Apple and Android manufactures treat their phones.

The interesting bit of the article is the rumor about moving to the f150 frame. The biggest selling point of the ranger is the size, so if they move on from that then the ranger will lose its identity.

Doesn't Ford generally always refresh vehicles after 4 years, assuming an 8 year life? Maverick is getting a facelift, too.

Guessing for the US Ranger it will be 2028.

Just because they move to a new shared frame with the F-150 doesn’t necessarily mean the Ranger will have to grow in size… the new Tacoma is now sharing a scalable frame with the Tundra.

I’m driving a 2002 F-150 SuperCrew and the new Rangers size is why I like it so much (minus the short 5’ bed). I sooo wish there was a longbed configuration. it’s the only reason I don’t own a new Ranger.

Dont know about historically as this the Ranger Raptor is my first Ford. The industry is condensing to a 3 year cycle though all around. I currentyl predict that we will start seeing 2 refreshes per car cycle to get them to 6 years then an "all new model".

The biggest issue is software iterates vastly faster then physical components.

From the leaks back in 2021, the 6G Ranger is planned to be in production until 2031. So from the original Job 1 date of July 2023 (not counting the delays), that would roughly be an 8 year lifecycle until we possibly see a 7th Gen.

I believe the 4-year/mid-life refresh has held true for the current F150, Maverick and Explorer. Haven't seen anything about the Bronco however.

Yeah, ive seen that, I just dont think it will hold. 2021 is basically 50 years ago at this point. The industry is moving faster and faster, especially on software.

Examples of this are Lucid and Tesla where they are adapting their manufacturing processes on the fly. If there is a significant part shift it dictates a refresh, but otherwise they just change stuff.

The article mentions a 7 year lifecycle. I doubt they would wait until 2028 for a NA refresh so close to the end of the 6G… just basing my theory on the info from this most recent article.

I bet theirs a global refresh. Not sure about when it goes to the us. A lot is invested in the Christian of manufacturing assembly lines. I can’t imagine them throwing that all away two years later.

A little off topic I read that the 2025 Maverick will have a stand alone Tremor trim as the F150 does.
So are the tea leaves telling us that Ranger will also have a Tremor trim in the near future say 2026

7 years would line up with the delays that happened, bringing it down from the expected 8 years they originally planned before the delays.

I'm not sure why they would introduce a Tremor trim into the trim levels. Would there be a market? I assume this exists in the F150 trim because there is such a big step up to the Raptor Package in the F150. Ford walks a tightrope with the Ranger because if it gets too pricey, you just buy a F150, so IMHO, they have to keep the top package price somewhat affordable. Thus, leaving a smaller range for a Tremor package....

Why wouldn’t they bring back a Tremor package/trim to the Ranger? It was an instant hit with the old generation Ranger and highly profitable for Ford. Plus they already offer it with the Maverick, F-150 and F-250. It defies logic as to why they wouldn’t offer the Tremor again for their midsize truck. 2026? Heck bring it back for 2025 (especially with the 2.7l being available)!!! I’m sure they can price it under the RR, so that reasoning isn’t a valid excuse not to offer it. It would just prove to be a better value to the competition.

For comparison the new Tacoma TRD Off-road (6’ bed) w/ Premium package is $55k… damn near RR price. This is what I’m cross shopping now since Ford doesn’t have a dedicated Off-road trim (Tremor) or a 6’ bed configuration.
