Locking gas caps wont stop someone. A flat head screw driver will easily defeat a locking cap in a matter of seconds. Pretty much all tanks have anti-siphon features, and most thieves will just drill your tank now anyway.

There are over 280 Million registered cars in the US. Many without locking gas caps and this is not a problem. I understand the feel good, but yeah.
You cannot just discount it outright. There is still some risk mitigation of having a locking gas cap or fuel door.

You do not leave your house or vehicle doors unlocked just because someone is determined enough will get in there anyways.

Depends where you live. Its much easier to keep your car door open then deal with a broken window. But once again, there is no piece of mind. if they are going to go the route of doing something to your gas tank, they will do it regardless.

But only if there's a way to safely lock your key in the truck, where someone can't walk up and unlock it.

I regularly lock my XLT key in the truck any time I'm going to the beach or boating, and many of those times I also lock my phone in there. Having it on me is only a liability in case of an accident or getting dropped in deep sand. Locking it in the truck and unlocking with the keypad is the ideal arrangement.
You can order a keypad sticker remote after delivery if you trust those enough. Well, i think you can. Mine's been on "order" for a week and still waiting on it. Some put it in the gas lid vs stuck on the door. Also, i'm not sure how, but the other day my wife managed to lock my keys in the truck (push button start). We had to get the second set of keys that were in the house to unlock it or could have used FordPass. Not sure how as I thought the system was supposed to detect key inside the cab and not allow it to lock.

There are a few weird scenarios that is can occur in. If she manually locked the door when it was open and the car still on, then shut the car off, that would do it. The nannies are meant for when the car isnt running.

Yeah, the car unlocked thing is pretty interesting. You would be surprised how many dont lock their cars, but in areas of high car theft or car robbery you will see more people just leave the doors unlocked so the windows dont break. Replacing a window is 400 bucks usually which is lower then most peoples minimum.

You can get Faraday bags on amazon pretty cheap that would let you leave keys inside the truck safely.

I keep one in my Lincoln. Particularly useful at the car wash as the spray will trigger the door and lift gate sensors. Annoying AF!
