Bed lighting switch

Has anybody added a switch in the bed to activate the bed lights? This seems to be an oversight by Ford it just doesn’t make sense why there would not be one.. There has to be an easy fix to just add a switch.

I wired my Gen5 lariat to a wire by the backdoor, identified by a few members. Mine work when I unlock or open a door however I can reactivate my lights by hitting the unlock button on my key fob. Might try that. Mike

Curious if anyone was able to easily make this work. I have a Lariat with the factory bed lights and they’re plenty bright enough. Just hate the switch location. I asked ChatGPT and got some options but I don’t want to run a new wire from the cab where the control module is to the bed to locate a switch. I asked about wireless options and got some ideas but I was hoping someone already did all the hard work and research could point us to an easy button. It’s only an inconvenience but you’d think Ford would realize owners might want to turn on the bed lights from the bed.

I had the Ford accesories bed light installed, I was under the impression it had these so I wanted 4, bed boxes block light where the idiot mounted the light so the dealer ordered a 2nd set and has instructions to not install them until I point out a location to install. I thought these accesory lights used existing holes to mount but the installer decided to drill 2 holes plus no grommet and tight wires equals a short eventually. I initially thought that the oem "slot" in the bed above the wheel was a handle to help you step on the tire until I got into the bed to figure out why the swing away boxes wouldn't latch, then I saw the oem light and tried the bed light switch and walla. I then started tackling the bed boxes. I explicitly told Ziebart to REMOVE all hardware & plug the threaded holes to avoid this problem. They removed the tailgate screws but nothing else so the D rings for the bed box latch was coated. Luckily they didn't prep it so I was able to pick it all off with my finger nails. So the oem lights work and the boxes latch.

My question is how do the lights they added mount? I need to remove both of them and install grommets then reinstall. I circled the light in question. Oh and does anyone know if the oem bedlight in my RR is replaceable with a much brighter bulb?

Am new to this forum. Installed the original bed lights on the Ranger Raptor 2022, plug and play with the Original Wiring under the Bed. Am not able to switch on the lights neither on zone lighting or even after unlocking the car. Can anymore please guide.

I wired up some Leds to switch 3 from the harness under the bed. And put some reverse lights on the bumper very easy. the back of the bed has 2 holes already so I ran back to front.

All that would be nice , No I ran them to switch 3. I may look into having the bed lights active on other lights. I have a lone battery LED motion sensing for the everyday simple stuff if I dont need alot of light. just taped to the back corner .

Thanks I may look into that for just the bed lights and then Leave the Rear backup on switch 3.

Where did you find the end of auxilary switch 3. Just started looking and can't seem to find it where manual says it is. 2025 Ranger raptor

Work got in the way today plus the torrential downpour all day. Tomorrow rain or no rain i'm gonna crawl under and find those wires. Trucks been undercoated so everything under there is black doesn't make.it easy. Any hints on where to tie in the third brake light on the cap

The ford body builder layout(aka upfitter guide) says you tape rhe 3rd brake wire at the bcm and run a wire back. I did this when I had my cap installed for the upfitter, and I also tapped my diode dynamics c1r's brake side into it to get rid of the trailer light error on my xlt. trailer plug still give me my ground, marker, and reverse lights.
