"... a federal mandate requiring surveillance technology that monitors your every blink, glance, and head nod. Thanks to Section 24220 of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act ..."

That's from the link. You didn't explain why or how this impacts your decision. The underlying subject is a law passed very recently. The obvious implication of your post is that you don't like the law. Will the '27 models have less power or more weight because of this? That aspect isn't political, but I sense a different misgiving.

I have no problem with your decision or your opinion on the law, whatever it is. I just don't understand the administrator's admonition to avoid politics when the topic is inherently political.

I also respect the apparent goal of the site administrator, but sometimes balancing acts aren't possible. Trying to pick up the clean end of a turd is mission impossible.

I understand his concern and agree with him. This technology is invasive and could be used for all kind of unwanted actions. Suspend driver's license, increased insurance rates and higher bower loan rates are just a few things that come to mind. Less government and more privacy!

Humm, seems to me that even the '25 models have this technology as on occasion I get a beep and notice on my dashboard to take a break. I have both a ranger raptor and a 150 Raptor and they both do that on occasion.
My 24 XLT reportedly does this. I haven’t seen that warning yet but I have gotten the 2 hands on the wheel one.

Just what could possibly go wrong with this:
  • Software glitch and you are stranded in the middle of nowhere?
  • My 25 RR has already two recalls for software issues.
  • Driving around a speed bump in an empty parking lot and it thinks you are swerving?
  • How to unlock your car? A tow back to the dealer for Ford to unlock it, and who pays for both those charges?
  • Your insurance company raises your rates for false software reporting?
  • What happens if the software does not like your sunglasses?
  • How about the poor soles who shell out lots of money for a vehicle that has lock-out issues the dealer cannot seem to fix, they try to sell it and no one wants it including the dealer and they have a loan on it.
  • I have a lot of patience, but this one law I would not have any patience for.
You can purchase Anti Facial Recognition glasses. If you where to put these on will the vehicle lock you out?

What if its an emergency in the middle of the night. It detects youre tired. Either wont start or slows you way down. This could be disastrous. Ive had to run family members or our dog to er in the middle of the night before. Had to drive fast as time was of the essence. Im sure I would've detected too tired by these new sensors detecting your pupils etc. Could've cost lives.

I have an eye allergy as I type this with both eyes red and swollen some. Would that mean I need to take Uber to the doctor's office cause the camera did not like my eyes and will not start/run?

I guess Blue-Cruise will be standard on new Fords going forward since that system already is reading your eyes. Oh.....but wait.........that is a subscription service that you have to pay for in order to use it. And you forgot to update the service because your credit card changed/stolen...... and now in the middle of nowhere the vehicle locks you out.

This reminds of the 70's when they mandated ignition lock-out if you did not have your seat belt latched. That did not last long.

I see the price of used cars sky rocking up once these hit the streets.

This is the first I’ve heard of this and it’s pretty insane. I certainly wouldn’t trust the technology to consistently work. And as noted, I see a lot of safety issues here. What happens if you need to drive someone to the ER and you’ve had one beer. There are also plenty of ways to implement this from a different legislative angle with existing technology - like drastically stricter penalties for drunk driving (e.g. mandatory lifetime ignition interlocks for repeat offender, etc).

Also, how am I supposed to take a bunch of LSD and go for a Sunday drive now?

That is the best thing I have read on this subject.

I do not have any faith with any auto company or the Government to get this right. Add to it data sharing and the need to make money off you anyway they can, it a recipe for disaster.

US should follow the rest of the world in lowering the legal limit and/or increasing penalties. A lot of people do not drink or do drugs. This technology assumes you are guilty until proven innocent.
