Borla Vs. Ford Performance exhaust...

Ok so the Ford is a single pipe, while the Borla is a true dual.

• Does that make a difference, other than sound?
• Is there really a performance improvement, gas milage improvement and such as claimed by Borla?

I have searched and haven't found any comparisons. I just did the tune and am about to pull the trigger on the exhaust system for my 2.7....

I wonder this myself. In theory a true dual should flow better. I think a lot of aftermarket exhaust get made with larger pipes that might hurt the low end where you are actually driving, however (slower exhaust velocity). MPI has true duals with an x pipe and they show a dyno that indicates primarily mid to high range gains, but the values and rpm seem a bit off.

I think I might try to make my own H pipe system and see how it does.

I'm not quite in the market yet, but I've been looking at the Borla and the Ford/Borla option. The Borla should flow better with the true duals which I would imagine would be a benefit with your tune, but I'm not sure what that would do for sound. I normally wouldn't really question it and go Borla, but with some of the coupon codes that Ford offers, and free shipping to the dealership, it does make the Ford/Borla tempting. When I get in the market I'll have to compare the Ford deals with my Summit Racing deals at the time and see how close they actually come in price.

For awhile ford really discounted the maverick system to like 350 bucks. Im holding out hope the Ranger system will go down . Im just not sure how good it will sound. Id like a trombone loop on my 2.7

I'm thinking the perfect setup would be trombone loop straight into H pipe (for torque), straight into x pipe (as a sound filter), straight into a straight through dual in dual out muffler.

If you want to pay now and receive the exhaust three + months later... Then Borla's your choice! I'm still waiting for the exhaust that I ordered two months ago with no communication from them and every time I reach out to them numerous times, I finally do receive a response with estimated production times that have come and gone... There are more and more companies coming out with exhaust systems for these at a better price point!

Update went with the Ford performance exhaust. That and my Ford performance tune, were installed by me and it was no problem at all. The exhaust took all of an hour, and the tune took about that long. Ford wanted to charge me for two hours of work at $ 160 an hour for the exhaust and 2 hours for the tune!!! At nearly $700 , thats a rip offf!!!

The exhaust with the tune is a notable difference! I had just the tune for a while and then I put on the exhaust and I can get a pretty decent second gear scratch out of it now. Sounds rich, not too deep not too bright and it doesn’t drone when you’re just cruising. It definitely wakes up when you stomp on it I think it’s a pretty good set up. The shifts are a bit smoother and you can hear each gear change. The tune helped and now this pipe makes it buttery!

Side note, I got the exhaust bin and a tune on sale so it ended up being way cheaper than Borla direct.

The truck finally feels like it should’ve came very enjoyable to drive, 110 % Recommend this set up.
As far as warranties go, they are both Ford products and no matter who installed it as long as the install is correct - does not affect the warranty. Double checked with the warranty info and the Ford performance rep. The dealer may tell you differently.

Borla manufactures the "Ford Performance" exhaust for Ford.

I'm surprised someone said you may install the tune yourself and retain the warranty.

The process lists who has to hit install in order to keep the warranty. It doesn't have to be a Ford guy but does have to have a certain certification.

You may have it so your warranty stays but most people don't have that cert and even being a higher level mechanic doesn't let me do it since either am not Ford or use or whatever the requirements were.

A&p let's me work for Lamborghini, BMW, and Porsche but not push install and keep the the ford warranty

Which version of the exhaust did you go with? I'm looking at the trail exhaust without the exposed tip. Glad the installs of everything went smooth
