Cabin Air Filter replacement?

Anyone replace their in Cabin Air Filter yet? If so, what did you replace it with, recommendations?

Just threw a new one in mine, and honestly just whatever was on the shelf at the parts store. I always throw a new one in after spring due to all the pollen and what not, but to each their own.

I like the activated Carbon ones.

That's the type I select, but this is an item that is strictly personal preference. It NEEDS to be changed occasionally, but any filter that fits should be adequate from a maintenance perspective.

I like the activated Carbon ones.

How do those compare to the Ford OEM ones? Some of the cheap Amazon filters are pretty poorly made and don’t have very much surface area (not enough pleats). OTH you can buy almost three for the price of a Motorcraft one. They are certainly quick and easy to replace.

Are you guys talking about K&N CABIN filters? The main website says Out of Stock, the Amazon page for the VF2078 looks good, but one buyer said that it absolutely did not fit a 2024 Ranger.

Do you use the special cleaning solutions or a substitute? How long does it take to dry after? The “Refresher kit” is tiny and $$$, how much solution is needed to clean and refresh the filter (how many uses per kit)? That will determine the actual long term operating expense of a special filter! You have to use the special “potion” to restore the electrostatic ability of the material….

I would still like to know how many cleanings you can get with the K&N kit. If you only get two, that means it costs $12 per cleaning, which is the cost of a new Amazon paper filter. There will not be any money savings unless you can get four or more cleanings and static treatments out of one kit. Unless there are cheaper solutions?

Plus you need to factor in the time needed to service the K&N filter, it isn’t trivial. A paper one OTH goes straight to the trash when dirty…

2. APPLY CLEANER: Spray a generous amount of K&N’s specially formulated cabin air filter cleaner P/N 99-0650 onto both sides of the filter, with a majority of it applied to the dirty side. Allow the cleaner to soak in for 10 minutes. Do not allow the cleaner to dry on the cabin air filter.

3. RINSE FILTER: Rinse off the filter element with cool or warm (not hot) water from the clean side out in order to flush the dirt out of the filter. It may be necessary to use your fingers on the hose, to apply light water pressure. Repeat steps 2 and 3, until the water flowing through the media is completely clear of any dirt and debris.

To me that sounds like a regular PITA, so why bother?

FYI if you decide to skip the refresher step, you risk starting a thriving bacteria or fungas colony in your entire HVAC system. Not at all good….
