Check engine light came on after first fill up 2026 Ranger 2.7L

Hey everyone, I recently got a 2026 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 with the 2.7L EcoBoost and got my first check engine Service Engine Soon warning shortly after filling up with gas.The truck has 1115km on it when It happened, and most of those were city driving

I filled it up for the first time, and afterward I got a warning in the Ford app saying there was an emissions system issue. It specifically mentioned that on capless fuel systems, the fuel inlet may not have fully sealed and recommended inserting removing the fuel funnel 3–4 times to reseal it. I’ve tried that and check engine light is still on.

Has anyone else with a 2024–2026 Ranger experienced a check engine light shortly after fueling?Did it clear on its own after a few drive cycle?

I’m mostly wondering if this is something others have experienced after fueling or if I should get the truck checked out right away.

Thanks!

I would take it to the dealer.

Was the truck running when you pumped the gas? I don't know why, but every Ecoboost engine I've had isn't a big fan of having the engine running while fueling.

I would suggest bringing it back in to have the dealer look into it. I would have to believe it is a leaking seal on the seal flapper, which would trigger the system error when it tests for a sealed tank. Certainly a case to use your dealership. Good luck and let us know what they find.

Up until this comment I had the impression that the error appeared right after filling up, but 3 days later? How many miles since the fill-up? How many shut-offs and starts? It may well be related to the full-up but it’s pretty hard to draw a straight line between the two events if there are cold starts and some miles between the two.

it was a disconnected hose under the hood, something to do with the purge valve

I think the lesson for us all is to be clear about details when asking for help here. The above statement is misleading, at best, given that there were 3 days between the fill-up and the error. I’m not finger-pointing or anything like that; just hoping that there’s a learning opportunity in this thread.

Glad to hear it was a 'simple' fix and a disconnected purge valve would certainly kick an error like that.
