Exactly what I’m looking for. Really cool. Can you share a order # or something that would allow sendcutsend to recreate it? Great job 👍
send cut send doesn’t work that way. i may be selling the towers in a few weeks, but i have some tweaks to make.
I have a bit of time figuring this out and while this was cheaper than an off the shelf rack, it was still almost 300 in materials. (hardware,8020, and the laser cut parts)
the towers and plates to have made cost 120 alone.
having said all that, i will post all the materials, hardware and tweaks i use to get this right as i want people to improve what i did.
if i can get the file from sendcutsend, ill post it, but not until im 95% satisfied with it. there will always be tweaking, i just want minimal.

This is very exciting. A next step would obviously be taller brackets that could accommodate a folding or roll-up tonneau cover. My roll up cover from Ford Accessories does not interfere with the stake pockets at all, so this could be useful if it were high enough to accommodate the fully rolled cover.
Maybe adjustable height in the future? Or a simple bracket to which 4020 extruded aluminum (of the customer's chosen length) could be attached?

it will work with a (between the rail) tonneau right now, i just gotta get rid of my clamp on top from my 2020 and get one.

so i redesigned a bit. saw some improvement to be made. pics will come when the parts come in. basically now you will be able to pop the towers off quick and mount where ever.
kbvoodoo has a very similar idea, also using 1515 as a baserail.

made some revisions.
load is spread out better, more adjustability, and quicker removal.

Can you show a close-up of how the base rail is installed/bolted to the stake pockets?
Thanks

basically i made two spacers out of 1530, opened the holes to 5/16.
front spacers are 7/8, ones by the rear are 3/4. i haven’t done the middle set, haven’t felt it’s needed, but i may. those spacers are 13/16.
i want to make some fancy end caps for the extrusion now

That V2 design is really nice. It should let you adjust spacing or add another bar for whatever you want on top down the road. I will probably do something similar with 8020 uprights of some sort when I get time.

Did you weigh it? Curious of the total weight? Those extrusions are beefier than they appear from my experience.

i think it’s around 50, based on shipping weight.

i wish i went full length with the 1515, but at 47” it was 16 bucks to ship. at 58” it was 56 bucks to ship.

got a new design coming. the base rail idea works well.
i’m going to redesign my towers so it’s all 1530,similar to extrusion overlands.
i always think there is improvement to be found, so i will be changing stuff.

so if anyone wants some towers- mine will be up for sale. they worked awesome with the tent!

new design. using off the shelf extrusion parts. base bars attached using grade 5 (8 is overkill) carriage bolts in the track with spacers in the stake pockets, bolted through.
crossbars are mounted using the 4 hole 15 series bracket, one side countersunk so it’s flush. ( i would rather counterbore but didn’t have one around, but whatever).

That looks pretty functional with a super low profile and minimal weight. It appears you could still put the canister type bed cover under it, or use your original risers for a roll top bed cover. It should be super flexible for attachments and low profile enough to keep most things out of the wind.

Thanks for posting. I am sure I will be copying it at some point.

i am going to make another set of riser brackets, 1/4” black anodized aluminum this time, 3” rise. i will be able to roll a soft tonneau up a bit easier.
those brackets will cost 118 just to have made.
the whole idea is to make a rack that’s easy on and off.
this way i have it right now- alittle more cumbersome take off- a good thing and bad thing.

What do you estimate the total materials cost for the final version was?
