DIY Total Chrome Blackout Project on my 24 Ranger XLT

Just got notification that my parts are being shipped today! Hopefully have an answer soon as to whether the XLT trim piece can be swapped onto the door.

Looks good. I still haven't figured out why Ford made that part silver.

What are the square lights in the lower valance?

Those are off-road LED lights I purchased from Tractor Supply Store.

My STX came from the factory with all the chrome black. Way less expensive and no blackout needed.

Thanks. I saw your post in the other thread after I asked here. Then I went out to see if I could add the same lights. No go for me because I have the front parking sensors on the panel where you mounted your lights.

They make a size smaller. Mine are 4.75." They make a 3" size which I originally ordered for mine but then cancelled the order when I realized the 4.75" would fit. You might want to check the 3" units out if you really want them and there is enough room along side the sensor.

Can I ask how you painted the plastic valance? I'm not sure about the durability of diy painting flexible plastic. The other parts look nice.

I do want to say that I hadn't really noticed the lug nuts until you mentioned them, but now...

I checked with Rustoleum Paint Co before painting the plastic valance and here is what they recommended so I went by their recommendation.

"We would recommend our Auto Acrylic Enamel 2x or our Painters Touch 2x Ultra Cover Paint and Primer. Both can be used on plastic surfaces and have clear coats within the brand to be applied over."

I finally got around to removing the front silver valance and painted it black for the completion of my DIY Blackout Package.

How difficult was it to remove the valence? I plan to do the same. Did you have to disassemble any other parts to get to it? Thanks in advance.

The Valance has spade type locking tabs along the top and sides. If you tug on them hard enough they will pull out. I gave them a little help with a thin screw driver to help them release. There are also 4 screws that you have to remove, 2 on each end of the valance. You access them from the back side of the valance. I used Rustoleum 2X Gloss Black and Clear paint. Here is a picture of the valance showing the backside with the tabs along the top and the screw locations.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about it, but it's a lot of area to sand and paint. I saw another thread where someone had the valance wrapped. I might look into that too.

That sounds like a clean project! Blacking out just the letters on the blue emblems was a nice touch—keeps it looking sharp without going too dark. The black lug nuts and tailgate letters probably pull it all together really well. Can’t wait to see it once you get the front valance done too. Post some pics when it’s all finished!
