While installing my running boards brackets I noticed this exposed electrical on the front left side near wheel. Why would they leave something like this uncovered / unprotected from dirt and water. Anyone know whjat this is and what its purpose is?

Google it - seems to be a fuel pump module

Those are deutsch connectors...you're fine. Each conductor is seperately sealed inside the connector and the connector junction is also sealed. If you're concerned, you can always have the dealer take a peek.

I think that box is the segregated turbo encabulator that controls the drawn reciprocation dinglearm inside the transmission.

Looks like a typical automotive connector. The pins that are used have rubber gaskets/insulators. The unused ones have plugs up in the connector. If you lay under your truck long enough you'll find a lot more of those.

The blue things crimp with the the connectors onto the end of the wore and fit inside the connectors keeping out water/dirt/whatever.

Connector. Probably goes back to your tail lights, e locker, and brake sensors.

I’m tempted to simply electrical tape it over but I guess it’s not needed. I’m gonna check with the dealership on first service

You could spray some fluid film on it for added assurance.
