Not sure why people say the 2025 2.3L MPC is made in Mexico.
There are a lot of possibilities. Just above someone posted a federally mandated Part 583 window tag identifying a 2025 model with 2.3L engine with "MEX" as country of origin. Similarly the consolidated disclosures from each auto maker posted by the NHTSA (which I linked to above) for the year 2025 also identify the 2.3L country of origin as Mexico (the 3.0 and 2.7 still US).

The federal regulations I also linked to give the legal definitions of how to calculate "Country of Origin" that the auto makers are obligated to report. You'll note that for engines they say that manufacturers are only required to calculate Country of Origin once a year. It also explains that Country of Origin is determined by total monetary value of components not physical volume or some other measure or even by the location of its final assembly.

so perhaps the engine block and some other components are made in Mexico.with final assembly USA

you can bet any engine made in the USA contains some parts from other countries

or maybe it doesn’t reflect the current status as you mentioned

but it does seem assembly cost not just parts is used to determine country of origin.

(d) Determination of the total value of an engine/transmission which is attributable to individual countries. The value of an engine/transmission that is attributable to each country is determined by adding the total value of all of the components installed in that engine/transmission which originated in that country. For the country where final assembly of the engine/transmission takes place, the assembly and labor costs incurred for such final assembly are also added.
(e) The country of origin of each engine and the country of origin of each transmission is the country which contributes the greatest amount of value added to that item of equipment (the U.S. and Canada are treated separately).

The point is Unions are chasing manufacturing out of the USA. Maybe you can enlighten us how moving production to Mexico helps the USA worker? More time to spend rioting and protesting in the streets?
yeah, how dare people want good pay and benefits in manufacturing jobs.

It's clear that people want American-made content, hopefully the tariffs will help.
Tariffs are just the government propping up an industry that can’t compete. It stifles innovation, and makes companies soft.

what happens when the tariff propping up a sector goes away?

Do you understand how we pay for all the imported trash? With billions of dollars in debt each month. Read up on the Twin deficits hypothesis - it's unsustainable. The national "credit card" is maxed out. We do not have a choice.

Please tell me how we can continue living beyond our means when the national interest rate (bond rate) is soaring. The government has been floating this debt by keeping inflation higher than the interest on the debt, but Uncle Sam's paying almost 4.5% at the moment, so I guarantee you inflation isn't cooling anytime soon it will need to ramp for the government to pay its debts.

This inflation and dollar devaluation cycle must continue until we cannot afford the imports anymore if it isn't due to tariffs, it'll be due to unsustainable national debt.

What on earth are you talking about? The conversation was on tariffs and US manufacturing and somehow now it's about national debt?

Like...you are aware the the US government isn't the one importing things from foreign countries right? That's just US companies wanting to maximize profit.

Just like with tariff's the foreign country doesn't pay....the importing company does. Then they pass that along as a price increase and call it a day.

Yes, it takes the smallest inferential ability to understand that the government's massive spending stimulates the economy. If the US gov't stopped spending over what it takes in tax revenue, then the money circulating for consumers to spend would become much less. It's elementary.

Again, it doesn't matter who pays, the effect is the same, imports go down.

This is as shitty an argument as it is way off topic. Let's move on.

I think it's pretty topical considering we're discussing domestic and international manufacturing. 😂

The rules changed on how parts content is counted and reported. The Ranger sold now is built in another country, so the sticker looks different. This started before 2024.

UAW does not control where Ford builds each model. Ford decides this based on cost and supply chains. Other Ford models are still built in the USA with higher USA parts content.

The plant in Wayne, Michigan might disagree with you.
