Not looking to start a big discussion, but are we all agreed that 91 from reputable purveyors is the proper grade for US models? Thats what I inferred from the manual but there was no Raptor specific fuel recommendation.

Most of the gas stations around here have 93 octane instead of 91. So I run 93 octane. Summer is getting closer so the prices have been steadily creeping up lately. I paid $4.58 per gallon last night. 😲

Actually the manual isn’t clear on that. Below is a screenshot from it that I interpret to mean “you can get away with 87 but you’ll get better performance by using 91.” Also there’s nothing specific about fuel in the "Raptor Unique Features" section of the Ranger manual nor the Raptor specific supplement .

High performance engines and turbos perform better on premium fuel. Their maximum hp and torque require premium fuel. So I've always run it to maximize the potential of my ford ecoboost engines and to ensure best engine combustion occurs and finally to increase fuel efficiency.

We picked our Ranger Raptor up in Kokomo, Indiana, from Brad Howell Ford (the most awesome people with Andy Redmon being our salesman getting us the vehicle at MSRP) and drove it 2,400 miles home to California (an epic road trip with a couple detours to see friends in Texas while dodging a couple tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas). During this trip we only used 87 octane typicslly purchased at Pilot or Loves Gas stations (that is the minimum number on the fuel filler access door) and never had any issues with excellent power, acceleration and no "knocking". While driving around town we got 15 MPG but on the freeway we received 18-19 MPG at 75 MPH. We also received 19-20 when cruising at 65 MPH. We just installed a Ford Embark tonneau cover (similar to a Retrax Pro XR with a ford logo applied) cover and saw our MPG increase approximately 10% to 22 MPG while on the freeway at 65 MPG. We might switch to 91 octane when we pull our small camping trailer but for now the 87 octane works fine.

I'm running 89 right now. I'm not driving it hard, and noticed no decline in performance the few times I've given it some oomph. Probably the best option for typical use, 87 for city driving with stop and go, and premium for hauling loads or when playing off road.

When you open up the fuel door it clearly states 87 octane

If you want to know the effects of Octane on your Ranger Raptor here is a test about it and there is lot difference between them. To say there is a difference is a understatement.

I have always ran Premuim in my high performance vehicles yeah they can run on 87 but its not the best for your engine. The premuim gas will keep your engine cleaner than the lower octane gas since the cheap stuff has less cleaners. I treat my vehicles to premuim to keep them running at the top of performance and it keeps the engine cleaner. If you plan on keeping it for a long time its just better for the engine.

I use 87 octane and put STP octane boost (jet fuel) for my F-150 2.7 ecobbost and there is a considerable difference. So far I've only used 93 octane in my Ranger Raptor. I'll try the 87 octane with the STP octane boost the next few fillups and repost with my results. I don't know if using octane boost with 87 octane is the same as using 93 octane. Im sure the ratio matters alot, The STP octane boost says it treats up to 28 gallons, so I try to keep it the same every time I fill up.. All I know is that there is a significant difference in performance. I don't know where the special little funnel is on the Ranger Raptor that you need to put anything besides the fuel nozzle into your tank. Don't try dumping octane boost in your fuel tank without that little funnel. That is used to make it past the safety opening that is used so people can't siphon gas out of your vehicle so easy.
