What's everyone using 40? 45? Max sidewall pressure?
Just bought a new Flagstaff E20fbs, and while it towed well @38 psi with an empty trailer, I'm wondering whether to go up some more when I take it out the first time loaded in 2 weeks.

Use what is on the door jam. The Idea of using MAX pressure for towing is a hold over from the Bias Ply tire days.
100%. Only go by what’s on the door plackard. These are passenger tires, not ment to be overinflated when towing.

My door panel says 38psi. COLD I'd leave it at that.
In day to day driving your pressure will go up , as the tires heat up down the road.
I'm usually around 40-43psi on the highway both with a heavy load and without.
It doesn't seem to matter with these factory tires?

Your tire temperatures are a good indicator for if you need to increase pressure- the TPMS display indirectly shows this. If they increase more than 6 psi after a couple of hours of towing, increase the pressure 2 psi and see if it helps. The rear tires take the most load when towing, especially if you use a dead weight hitch. Excess heat is a result of sidewall flexing and not enough air. Allow for the effect of direct sun on one side of the truck, whether towing or parked, it will raise the temp a little and you will see one side running “hotter” when they are just warmed by the sun…

Upgrading to LT tires will help when towing frequently and will also be more stable due to extra sidewall stiffness.

Do you have TPMS on your trailer tires? You must weigh the fully loaded trailer on a truck scale. The above pressure comments apply even more there. Do NOT run the max sidewall pressure unless the load requires it - use a tire pressure/ load chart to determine the optimal psi. Excessively hard tires beat up your trailer and it’s contents!

My sticker says 30 psi.
Yes it seems the XL trim are labeled 38psi. Some 30psi. It all depends on your trim level, the weight of your Ranger with its add ons , suspension upgrades etc. There are many posts about this on R6g

I tow a Forest River 192 RPod which is similar to your Trailer weight wise. When loaded it doesn't add much weight maybe 100lbs. We don't carry much and leave maybe 7 gallons in the reserve tank in case we use the restroom.

I have just kept my tires at 38lbs which is recommended from the door sticker. and the tires go up to 41lbs when towing. Goodyear tires. I normally tow at 63mph and never over 65mph when towing. Everything had been fine. No issues.

Just got a 26 lariat trim with the wrangler tires, the door sticker reads 30psi also, never seen it labeled so low and I've been driving since 1979. Came from factory with tires filled to 45psi all around.
I think the sidewall max pressure was around ~50psi

I always keep the tires more filled when towing to combat tire flex

Tongue weight will dictate if and how much you should increase the tire pressure on your rear tires. The higher the tongue weight, the more stress the sidewalls of the rear tires will see. This stress can show up as heat.
I’ve always been a fan of checking wheel bearing and tire temp after an hr or so on the trip, then at fill ups after that. A infrared temp gun is inexpensive snd s great tool for checking trailer wheel bearing’ trailer and truck tires and brake temps. Though they might not all be 100% accurate, they are relative and fairly close to accurate for this purpose. If the sidewalls of your rear tires are running significantly hotter than your front tires, add 3 to 4 psi to them. (Assuming you started close to the rating on your door AND are under the max tire pressure rating of your tires. Excessive heat will soften your sidewalls and shorten their life and affect the stability of your load.
