Ok, we all know the stock tie rods are a weak "fuse" in the 2.0 system. I'm not quite at the point to do the 74Weld and 3.0 swap, yet.

I'm considering either of the above & my questions is this : with the stock 2.0 rack, what's better? Half-Tie rod w/sleeve or full tie rod kit?

Does the half-tie rod kit w/sleeve provide a measurable amount improvement over the stock unit? (it certainly looks beefier, but all the photos I have seen of bent tie rods seem to show bending in the inner, threaded section - not the outer section)

*I'm aware the full tie rod kit puts your rack at risk. RPG has the half-kit w/sleeve and states it does not void warranty. (I'm a little dubious about that but sure, ok assuming that by using the thinner inner factory section that's possible, but isn't that what's bending in the first place? )

Just looking for some experience input here - I'm not a rock crawling guy (I have a dirbike for the hard stuff) - but I do run around quite a bit off the beaten track.

Anyone - thoughts / ideas?

My plan is to install the tie rod sleeves before hitting the desert.

You can see how the sleeve will engage with the inner tie rod in the picture I took a few minutes ago. Measuring the diameter of the tie rod and the inside diameter of the sleeve, it is a close fit.

I too am running those sleeves. I got mine from Foutz Motorsports. I have done a fair amount of rock crawling in Moab and southern Utah with zero issues. I carry a spare set of stock tie rods and a removal tool as piece of mind.
The 74 Weld upgrade seems like overkill for 35” tires or stock tires, but it would certainly provide more “piece of mind”.

Looking at the SVC set up, I’ve used there product on my full size and have had great luck with it. Devils abdicate, break the tie rod or trash the rack? Tie rods are cheap!

I am eventually going to install the 3.0 rack. That being said once I can find some I will buy a spare tie rod for each side on the factory rack instead of a sleeve or any sort of upgraded tie rods. I'd rather change a tie rod on a trail than trash my rack.

Appreciate everyone's input/experiences here. I'm in agreement that the McMinimum is to install the sleeve/nut kit as a start.

I might decide to whip up a full replacement link that includes a pre-assembled half tie rod w/sleeve (meaning carrying just one that would work on either side is less to pack than 2 replacements)

Not sure if left and right side inner tie rods are thread specific in configuration where the link meets the hoss rack?

Looks like the inners are the same P/N, so I'd guess the outers are the only parts that are the different for the bends they have which are particular to left or right.
