8 or 10 mm wrench or socket. Was real easy to see
I must have been missing something because I spent hours underneath and couldn't find anything. I really wish someone had taken pictures of what to remove because all the instructions are garbage.

Brother, if I get a few minutes this weekend, I’ll drop the skid plate and take the pics for you.
I think that the “shroud” you’re referring to is the damper. You actually just slide the intercooler back just a little and it will clear the damper and you can disconnect the hoses and drop it right out. Some of the bigger intercoolers require you to remove the damper to install them. That’s one of the prime reasons that I chose the COBB intercooler; it’s about as big as you can get without altering / removing other parts.

I just received the Wagner intercooler and spent 2 hours trying to figure out how the hell to remove the lower bumper. The instructions that came with it are complete crap, and I feel utterly defeated. I removed as many screws as I could get to but nope, couldnt figure out what I was missing. This is coming from someone who removed the entire interior to install a whole new audio system.

So yeah, if anyone has done this mod already, can you tell me what Im missing? With pictures if possible.
it should not take you more than 20-30min to install. The lower cover (skid plate) has only 4 screws if I remember correctly. And the stock intercooler only has 2 screws that hold it there, after the screws are removed, the IC comes down, and reinstall is just the backwards procedure.

I installed the fenix unit and the only thing you should be careful with is if they provided longer screws, make sure when they go in that they do not hit the new IC body because you can make a hole on it. In my case I had to add some extra washers to ensure it was not touching.

I don't know what I was missing. I had like 30 screws and bolts on the ground, and I felt like I was breaking plastic up top when I was pulling on the intercooler. It just wouldn't release.

the intercooler screws are in the front if I remember correctly, I dont remember if between the bumper and the grille or around the intercooler air intake cavity. But you don't need to remove much, only the skid plate and with those screws it slides right down after disconnecting the stock charge pipes.

Yeah I had everything undone, just Wouldn't budge. I'll give it another go this coming Wednesday.

It doesn't have the same top mounts as the fennix

I looked at my truck and it seems the intercooler screws are accessed from the bottom. I hope the info helps on your install

Unless I get pictures of these screws, it won't help.

At this juncture, it’s probably best that you bring your truck to a qualified technician to complete this install.
I don't understand why my request is so hard. I'm qualified enough to do this. All I want is a picture of where these two screws are located since the instructions are garbage.

Im currently doing weekend errands, cannot take the picture right now and I did not take pictures from that when installed of the screw, but I attach some of the intercoolers side by side so it give you an idea of how it slides down. I hope that helps some.
To access the screws you need to remove the skid plate for what I could see in the parking lot a few min ago, I did not see any screws accessible from the front.
If I find the phoenix box I can pist here the install instructions that came with it as reference, bit thatvwould be tomorrow when I work on my vehicles.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I did remove the skid plate and spent 3 hours removing every screw/bolt under the truck I could find. I could wiggle the intercooler but it ABSOLUTELY felt like it was being held on from the top by something. When I pulled on it, I heard plastic creaking ready to snap.

Ok, finally had the time to attempt this again. Found the two screws that were holding me up the first time (see picture). Literally got it done in a half hour. I did not install the louvers or the top brackets. No lights on the dash after startup.

Nice, did you leave the motor connected to the harness for the louvers, or remove it as well? (related to your no lights on the dash remark).
