Hi Everyone, I’m looking to get new wheels for my Shelter Green RR. I’m going to keep the tires. I don’t know much about offsets, wheel sizes and fit etc so I was hoping some of you could help me. I like these wheels from RRW (https://www.relationsracewheels.com/collections/rr7-flow-form-wheels/products/rr7-h-flow-form-hybrid-beadlock-wheel-matte-bronze?variant=42002798870610)

The support there suggested
17x8.5 | 6x139.7 | +25 | 5.73" I’m not sure if this the size he’s really suggesting or these are the numbers that came up on the site. Would these fit?

Also he suggested +25 and again I’m not that familiar with how much these would poke out? I live in Maryland and it says modifications to wheel width and offset must not extend beyond the original fender line of the vehicle. I know they don’t enforce this very mush as I see truck etc that poke out very far all the time. I’m not really interested in poking out very far. Somewhere else it suggested +12. It seems that would be a little but not too much?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat.

It's in millimeters, so ~25mm = 1 in.

He was citing the difference between stock +55 offset and +25.

+25 should be fine. +35 is slightly better if you can get it.

Lots of different factors at play...there's no perfect answer, but you want to try to keep as much positive offset as possible w/ this truck. Lion77 or engineering types can explain far better than I can :D

I have +25 Method wheels which results in a slight poke of the sidewalls when using factory width tires. The tread remains covered by the fenders. I specifically chose the +25 wheels because the wheel width was 8" vs the 8.5" width of +35 wheels I was also considering. In general, less positive offset allows the mounting of wider tires that maintain tire clearance to the control arms. If you are retaining the factory tires, I would try find +35 wheels although +25 might be a reasonable compromise without attracting undue attention. In Maryland, vehicle equipment issues are a secondary offense so you cannot be stopped purely for tire poke, but the police usually will find a primary offense if they watch you for a while, lol.

So just to show how little I know about this stuff. I'm confused now. Most are says +25 or better +35 would push them out a bit? But when I look at the wheel website it shows this...

A negative number pushing it out. What am I missing?

Play w the calculator. The lower the number the more they will stick out. Factory is +55. As the number goes lower than that they will stick out more. Wheel width also factors into how much they stick out which is why the calculators are helpful.

Now you're getting into negative offsets which poke out even further...... minus 12 and minus 25.
You need a positive offset probably +18, +25 or +35.

Ok. I think I'm getting it. It's all relative to the stock offset of +55?
