I want to use CarPlay for music, messaging, etc. but I want to use the Ford navigation for my maps (esp in areas where cell coverage is spotty). But as soon as I plug my phone in, the navigation switches to phone navigation (Apple Maps). How do I get CarPlay to read the installed maps instead of the over-the-air apps?
iā€˜m on Sync 3.0.

CarPlay is ā€œeither/ orā€ - there is no way you can stream only your media and Messages but not the Apple Maps. That is why you get a complete Apple desktop with all your apps showing, INSTEAD of the Ford ones.

Have you tried using offline maps for Apple or Google Maps? That might help, but it is kludgy and a band aid fix. The best thing is to use a stand alone gps (I quite like my Garmin DriveSmart 76). It is great to have some reliable routing and POI information when your entire Apple or Google map goes completely blank, and Siri saysā€Sorry, I can’t answer your question.ā€

I would just delete my Ford nav if I could, it is a pure waste for my needs.

Amazon Garmin DriveSmart 76 22% off

BTW, this model will run a routable Topo map set at the same time as the standard street maps. Way cool…..

Yes and No. You don’t need Apple CarPlay to stream your iPhone music; all you need is a Bluetooth connection. Then select the orange music šŸŽµ symbol to the right of the blue navigation arrow.

Just turn CarPlay off on your iPhone.

Disappointed theres no a paper map as well in this picture. I hear you like to navigate while you navigate so I put map in your map on your map with your map.

Not sure about Sync 3 but this does work with Sync 4 in my Raptor. I usually stream music in CarPlay and use Ford Nav. After doing what you need to do in the CarPlay screens you can get back to Ford Nav through the home menu or, in my case, the blue Nav shortcut button in the bottom of display just above the hvac controls.

I want a wider angle on that camera. Ten bucks says Sacagawea is in the passenger seat holding the map.

I left the iPad Mini at home on that trip, silly me. There is a WA Benchmade Atlas too, but it is usually stashed in back, in case I truly get turned around. I am indeed alone except for my inReach.

I like maps, is there something wrong about that?

I think there's some room for us to mount a globe. That's really the only missing piece incase you are like really lost. We can get one of those that open up and contain a decanter of whiskey or something as well. No one will ever expect it.

Yeah, that also works. I’ve been having problems with CarPlay audio, so I’m turning it off to see if Bluetooth streaming music works better than CarPlay.

Nice to see I'm not the only one that uses more than one map while road tripping. Though I only use two. ;) I like to use the built in Nav for guidance, mostly for the dash display integration, but also google maps for most current traffic information. We do a 13hr drive regularly and have to make mid course routing decisions based on traffic between Washington DC and Richmond. Google maps usually has the most up to date traffic conditions.

Wait! No sextant? Get out of here with this nonsense!

To answer OP, I disabled android auto on my phone and just use sync and BT for streaming and phones. If I need a map, it's the truck for now.

Anyone know if the Raptors can get the offline trail maps like the Broncos, or if that's even a decent option?
