And this install experience is not over yet!
I went to the dealer yesterday for my 2:30pm appointment to have the modular bedliner installed.
Why that bedliner? I need something 'slick', plan to put a tonneau over the bed, low profile crossbars,
and then my bike racks on the crossbars. Trays inside that will slide out/across the tailgate.
Why the dealer? I'd read about horror stories getting the tie down cleat bolts out.
Sure enough, I'm sitting in the waiting area sipping coffee and the service manager comes out.
He says 'we ran into a problem, can you leave the vehicle here?'
So I call the wife at work. She tells me it will be a while (2 hours).
After a while I was dinking about the show room and 'whined' to the command center desk folks
and one of them said 'hey we can give you a loaner'.
I texted the wife and told her to not worry about picking me up/too late she'd already left work.
Yes the install tech had broken a bolt.
The loaner was a huge silverado pickup.
I hop in fire it up and notice fuel gauge on zero haha!
Go back in and complain some more, me thinking if I do that they'll break more bolts, or just go get
a little gas.
Pull into the gas station, pop in my credit card, then realize it is a diesel truck.
Look around, no diesel at this station ha!
A comedy of errors but there is a take-away.
After a 40 min drive home I wish I was back in the Ranger XLT.
A huge honking pickup is just not me.
Dealer still has the Ranger. Fingers crossed they get the bedliner installed today. I've got a tonneau
cover waiting for me and the wife to install. Luckily no bolts need to be removed to install it.

Dealer called today and asked if I was ok with the loaner for the weekend. Told me the Modular bedliner was missing enough bolts for the install. Seriously. Never owned a Ford product before and I know the locktite'ing of the bolts isn't the dealers fault but I am wondering if maybe I should have gone spray in after all. I just wanted something slick my trays could slide in and out of.

Brand new '25 XLT FX4 happy owner here (<250 miles will post about it soon). Those scary cleat stories registered with me too. I got quotes for various things dealer and otherwise, and opted for the Bedrug, came next day from Amaz and installed it myself in an hour and was 100s less than the spray-in and is easy on my old knees. Cut slits for the cleats. Just added a Bakflip MX4 gen 3 before the first rain came. I put in the wooden bed trays I made for my traded-in short-bed '09 Tacoma (with rope handles) that slide in and out on the rug just fine.

I did the DuraLiner drop in. Much cheaper and takes literally 10 minutes to install. Super easy.

I think everyone rushes trying to get the bolts out. I did mine in my driveway and while the bolts were very tight bc of the loctite, I had none strip out. I used a high quality MAC tools Torx bit and an extended handle 3/8 ratchet. Went through and loosened all of them a couple turns, letting each one sit and “cool down” so to say in between. Kept doing it a couple turns at a time and within 30-45 minutes I had all the bolts come out with zero damage. Also, the Bedliner doesn’t come with bolts. Just little plastic pins. He must have said that bc they destroyed your old ones. Anyway, hopefully they get it right as I love the drop in liner.

I just wrote them to see what shipping would be for me. I need a back up plan, and looking at this one if I'd known about it I would have gone that route. I'm in a time crunch trying to get ready to drive to texas to pick up a camper. The tonneau is sitting here waiting for us to install it......bedliner probably best to go in first.

Yep, looks like the same one. I had the local DuraLiner dealer order it and shipping was free (under $300). I let them install it for a small fee. Like $350 all in with shipping and installation. For the install, they had to cut out the bed lights section (4 screws each light) and the power section (4 screws). The body facing side of the liner has a guide line so you know exactly where to cut, super easy. Then it just pops in and you put the bed lights and power section back in and you're done. The tail gate is about 8 screws with some depth inserts. After that, just pop in the rubber circle inserts over the tie down bolts. The great part is you do not need to touch those bolts, making the install just 10-15 minutes.

I'll go to a spray-in if I keep the truck, but right now I have the modular liner.

The dealership ordered it for me and installed it, and didn't screw anything up in the process.

The one thing I forgot to tell them was not to toss the tailgate panel hardware, as the instructions say to throw it away and use the included screws instead of the old ones.

I expect they're just a little bit longer for the spacers that need to be installed. I've got one of the originals they left in the bed by mistake, but overall no loss. I expect the new screws will still work without the liner panel.

The spacers seem to be designed to help mitigate warping as temperatures change; letting the panel slide as it needs to.

Even if the new screws don't work without the liner panel, I'd still leave the liner on the tailgate even if I sprayed the rest. Tailgates get bent up on the inside, at times, and the liner protects them better than spray.

No local dealer for me. I'll give the Ford dealer until Tuesday afternoon, if not done, then will order the Duraliner....shipping is sadly $185. I'm running out of time.

Maybe there is a dealer on the way to your destination. A lot of 4x4 shops sell DuraLiner.

I installed mine myself and didn’t even come close to breaking a bolt. People are just in a rush and going too fast or using the wrong tools. I did take the time to heat them up with a heat gun, but they came right out no problem once they got hot.

One would think the dealer would be taking their sweet time charging me by the hour. This whole process will end up being almost a week the Ranger has been at the dealer for a bedliner install. Is that crazy, or am I just crazy haha! Giving them until Tuesday then going with another plan.
