Is the Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat a premium color or a premium paint job?

Thinking about a 2025 2.7 Lariat in Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat.

Question: is Azure Gray a premium color, meaning you're paying for the exclusivity of the color itself, or is it a higher quality, thicker, multiple-layer paint job as well?

That‘s what I ordered a couple weeks ago and from what I was told it’s the cost of the paint job, not the exclusivity of the color.

its a tri-coat. meaning base layer, the metallic and then the clearcoat. you're paying for the extra coat.
The other colors are just a base and clear.
It might be considered exclusive because people are cheap and dont want to pay the extras.
I have yet to see another Azure grey in my area.

I got Azure grey just because I liked the color. Its a mixture of the 2 colors I like for cars: grey and blue.

Local dealer has a RR with the Azure color--checked it out the other day. The sky was overcast and would need to see this during a sunny day.

I wonder how Azure Gray Metallic will age in terms of style. In other words, 7 years from now, is it going to be the equivalent of having shag carpet and wood paneling in your house?

It's a 'not in your face' type colour so should age well. I've had lots of compliments on it.

I've heard that several automakers have been having paint problems. I wonder if the root cause is stricter and stricter EPA regs.

It's the luck of the draw. The paint finish on mine is almost flawless. One small fish eye on the driver door sill.

It's a wee bit messed up to pay $65k for a mid-size truck and have it rust out on the drive home from the dealer.
