Hey guys. Saw a few discussions on here with similar issues, but none were updated with any fix or resolution.

Bought my 2026 Ranger XLT about 6 weeks ago. It has the switchblade key/remote. On Sep 6, I went to unlock the truck and nothing happened. Walked closer, still nothing. Tried to lock and get it to honk, nothing. Opened the Ford app and unlocked with that, and it unlocked fine. Immediately after, my key fob worked again like normal. Would lock, unlock, remote start.

Yesterday, just 16 days later, it did it again! This time I manually unlocked the truck with the key. Before even stepping in, I tried the remote and again, it worked perfectly normal.

The first time I thought it was a fluke, but now it happening twice in just a few weeks span has me thinking something is up. I don't think it's the remote battery as it works fine once I seem to "wake up" the truck. I'm also thinking it isn't my truck's battery as it starts up, cranks, and runs perfectly fine and normally otherwise.

Anyone dealt with this? Rather not have to deal with the dealer until I have to. Thanks all

Don't have the " Switchblade " key fob on our 2024 Ranger Lariat but I will say the buttons are awfully cheap. I to experience the occasional issue. In my opinion the more tech crap they put on these vehicles, the more problems owners will have. Just wait till cars start flying!

My first suggestion would be to try replacing the battery in the fob. It could be getting too low and not connecting consistently. After that, take it in to the dealer if it continues.

Do you keep your key in the house relatively close to your truck when you're home? With my previous vehicle, I've had my fob drain faster than I thought it should because it was just close enough that the car could start sensing it. Not sure if my theory is correct on that, but that was my best guess at the time.

I've put my spare fob in a faraday bag in the house so it doesn't drain itself trying to connect to the truck when I'm not using it as my daily key.

So my key is old school - it's the switchblade with an actual key, so there isn't any sensing, or push to start or any of that tech. I also checked the coin battery and it's good to go. Definitely not a battery issue in the key as it always works perfectly after doing something to the truck not the key.

My dealership gave me free lifetime state inspections, so my plan is to write any warranty issues that aren't life or death and then have them look at all of them next year during inspection

I see. I was thinking that no matter the trim, the truck would be calling out for the fob. Maybe that's only for the trims that have the lock/unlock from the handle when you're standing next to the truck with the key in your pocket?

That's my understanding! I don't have any of that, so this should act just like any remote key from the last 20 years or so

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and then again the other day.

I locked up with the fob and ran back because I forgot something a few minutes later and it wouldn't unlock or react to the fob inputs at all. Manual unlock with the key in the door and then turned it on no problem. Locked and unlocked via the fob immediately after with no problem.

The second time I was trying to remote start from maybe 50yds, it flashed the lights and I heard the starter click once but it didnt fully turn over or start. Then the fob stopped responding and I had to manually enter again. I was worried the battery died but it turned over no problem and ran totally fine.

Chalked it up to gremlins but interesting to see I'm not the only one.

Curious! Looks like you have a 2025, so not like it's a recent production issue... Let me know if it happens again and I'll do the same! I'll probably ask the dealer about it next Aug

Occam's Razor - The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Change the 50 cent battery and report back. Don't assume "It's definitely not the battery."

Yes it’s happened to me twice. I got in the app and unlocked the truck through the app and then the fob started working. I think it’s a software issue with the body control module if I had to guess. Almost as if the key signal wasn’t being received and waking up the body module.
